MSC Aquarist Intern (Unpaid)

The Harbour School Hong Kong Marine Science Center (MSC) is seeking a self motivated individual to assist in the daily and weekly care and maintenance of our aquarium animals. 

About us:

The MSC brings marine science curriculum into the school and provides a meaningful learning experience that integrates marine science with regional and global perspectives for students in Hong Kong. The MSC is an aquarium and laboratory facility focused on education and outreach programs. It is equipped with an up-to-date touch tank and aquarium,  utilizing a high-tech life support system which allows research.

Students visit the MSC for hands-on learning activities and gain deeper knowledge of the environment around them.

Aquarist Intern

The Aquarist Intern will assist in the proper care of the animal collection, including environmental requirements, nutrition, and the maintenance and appearance of all exhibits under the direct supervision of the MSC manager and specialist. Intern will assist in maintaining all department protocols, adhering to policies and fulfilling daily responsibilities assigned in supporting exhibits and operations. This is a non-paid internship and no housing is offered. 

Essential Duties: 

Must have an interest in, and be willing to learn about aquarium keeping and the biology of the inhabitants. Should be fairly agile with the ability to climb on top of exhibits and up ladders, must be willing to get wet, perform "dirty" jobs and handle fish, squid, shrimp, etc. Interns will be performing similar tasks to staff Aquarists (water changes, exhibit cleaning, and food preparation).

Requirements: 

• Proficient in written and spoken English.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods of time and climb ladders.
• Familiar with using excel and spreadsheets.
• High school diploma.

Preferred:

• BSc degree 
• Cantonese skills written and spoken is preferred
