This role allows anyone interested in helping with facility upkeep and maintenance to make a meaningful impact, whether or not they have professional skills, certifications, or maintenance experience. Volunteers may assist with a variety of projects that help keep the building and space functioning effectively, safely, and comfortably for residents, staff, and visitors.
At The INN Between, our mission is to provide compassionate care, dignity, and a safe place to heal for individuals experiencing homelessness and medical vulnerability. By supporting the maintenance and care of our building, volunteers directly contribute to creating a welcoming environment where residents can focus on recovery, stability, and quality of life. This work serves as the backbone of all services provided at The INN Between, as maintaining a safe and functional environment makes all other care and support possible.
Time Commitment:
- Volunteer opportunities are available weekdays between *9:30 AM – 4:00 PM. (*once independend, volunteering could extend outside of these hours)
- Volunteers may sign up for flexible 2-3 hour shifts during those times, making it easy to help in a way that fits your schedule.
Education/Experience:
- For general facilities support volunteers do not need any certifications and while general knowledge of facilities work is helpful it is not required.
- Certifications or equivalent experience are only required for specialized tasks such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work.
Skills and Abilities:
- Volunteers should have good attention to detail, problem solving skills, communication skills, and be dependable.
- Physical stamina is required for tasks that involve a lot of hands-on work. If you have a lifting restriction, please ask for staff assistance with moving objects.
- Passion for The INN Between and the services provided to the community.
- Volunteers should be able to be comfortable with homeless individuals.
- Ability to keep client information confidential.
Requirements
- 18+ years of age.
- Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check.
- Sign Required Volunteer Documents: Department of Human Services Code of Conduct, DWS Code of Conduct and Non-Disclosure Statement, HIPAA Acknowledgement, etc.
- Must provide a list of current vaccinations, including flu and COVID-19, masks will need to be worn for any exemptions.
- Depending on the tasks assigned, volunteers may need to be comfortable standing or kneeling for extended periods of time.
- If you have a lifting restriction, please ask for staff assistance with moving objects during your duties.
Training Commmitment
- New Volunteer Induction
- Volunteer Orientationm, to be completed prior to any direct service - 1 hour.
- In person meeting and tour.
- Position Specific Training – .5 to 1 hour. Will take place during the initial position shift.
- Volunteers will receive guidance and support from staff to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience for all.
Responsibility
- General Support:
- Coordinate with staff to ensure safe and effective completion of tasks.
- General facility maintenance includes non-specialized facility upkeep tasks and supporting our facilities team.
- Assisting the Facilities Manager in documenting regulatory compliance and performing basic preventative maintenance
- Utilize certified skills or trade experience to assist with specialized facility maintenance, including areas such as:
- Electrical work
- Plumbing
- HVAC systems
- Carpentry or repairs
Additional Info
- Volunteers will want to wear durable clothing that can get dirty.
- Volunteers will keep all client information confidential
- Volunteers will adhere to the policies and procedures of The INN Between.
- Due to the vulnerable populations we serve, there is to be absolutely no taking pictures of clients or location identifying markers. We encourage volunteers to only take photos of themselves for any social media purposes.
- After setting your schedule, you must contact the Position Lead or Community Engagement Coordinator as soon as possible, ideally 48 hours in advance, if you need to cancel a shift so other arrangements can be made.
