Hiring a Voter Contact Field Director to elect Democrats in Oregon

Who We Are:
The Outreach Team is the national engine of campaigners and organizers building a fairer, cleaner, safer, and more peaceful world. Every campaign is our opportunity to make the world better. We show up because we believe in what's possible—politically, personally and collectively. We invest in people at every level—industry-leading pay/benefits, rigorous training and support, real paths to leadership.

We partner with good groups to do great things - right now that includes working with Denise Krause in Oregon Senate District 3, working with State Voices to help millions of people of color get registered to vote, organizing with leading environmental organizations to fight for climate funding, drumming up support for reproductive rights with Planned Parenthood, and many other progressive campaigns.
The Field Director will recruit, train, and manage a team of local canvassers to contact voters at the door. Directors are expected to train voter contact canvassers in the field while canvassing themselves to lead by example; they must also communicate long and short-term goals to staff and manage campaign reporting.

Locations: Ashland, OR and the local Senate District 3 area

Timeline: Immediately through Election Day

Canvass Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 15–20 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to voters about defending reproductive rights.
  • Canvass yourself several days a week to train staff and drive office goals
  • Set goals and hold staff accountable to them
  • Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff
  • Identify, promote, and train a leadership team
  • Build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
  • Develop strategic plans to reach targeted voters in assigned locations
  • Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials

Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team
  • Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
  • Track record of equity and inclusion
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends

Nice to Have:

  • Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
  • Familiarity with VAN and MiniVAN
  • Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
  • Facilitation experience
  • Local knowledge/experience

Salary:

The salary range for this position is $1,146 – $1,500 per week. We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and hands-on training. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement and bonuses.

At The Outreach Team, we prioritize equity and inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer and we strongly encourage Black, Indigenous, people of color, women, people with previous felony convictions, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.
