Manager of Software Engineering
Quick Summary
1s, provide feedback, and support career development for your team members. Participate in hiring efforts: sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding new engineers.
AHEAD is looking for an experienced, people-focused engineering leader to lead the team behind Hatch and Unity. We’re a leading IT services provider, trusted by some of the world’s largest companies to design, build, run, and modernize their most important technology across cloud, data, AI, and security.
Hatch is an advanced platform for IT lifecycle management, renewal, procurement, and logistics, giving enterprises real-time visibility and control over their IT assets, orders, contracts, and inventory across thousands of sites. Unity, its sibling platform, extends those capabilities to streamline our own operations and service delivery. You’ll lead a progressive engineering team that lives on the forefront of technology: one that builds real products, adopts new tools early, and never stops learning. Keeping that team curious, growing, and shipping is the heart of the job.
You’ll own the health, growth, and performance of the team while partnering with product and business stakeholders to deliver features that drive real value for our customers. This isn’t a purely administrative role. We’re looking for someone with strong technical instincts who can guide architectural decisions, remove blockers, and help the team do their best work. Your success will be measured by the success of your team and the impact of the products they deliver, built the way the best teams build software today.
AI has changed what great engineering looks like, and we’re building accordingly. We’re looking for a leader who sets the standard for using it well, encouraging the team to treat AI tools and coding agents as a force multiplier while holding a high bar on review, testing, and ownership. As AI takes on more of the routine, a team’s edge comes from judgment, product sense, and the discipline to verify what ships. You’ll cultivate exactly that.
- Champion fluent, responsible use of AI tools and agents, so the team delivers faster while staying firmly accountable for quality and security.
- Hire and develop for judgment, product sense, and verification skills, not raw output.
- Shape the team’s AI workflows, tooling, and standards, and keep improving them as the landscape shifts.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers building the Hatch and Unity platforms.
- Partner with product management and business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable development plans.
- Own delivery timelines and ensure the team ships high-quality software on schedule.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support career development for your team members.
- Participate in hiring efforts: sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding new engineers.
- Foster a healthy team culture built on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Guide technical discussions and help the team make sound architectural decisions.
- Remove obstacles and shield the team from distractions so they can focus on building.
- Establish and refine development processes and AI-assisted workflows, balancing agility with predictability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, customer success, and other engineering teams.
- Stay close enough to the codebase, and to how the team works with AI, to give meaningful input during code reviews and technical planning.
- 5+ years of software development experience, with at least 2 years in a management or team-lead role.
- Experience managing teams building web applications, ideally in Elixir/Phoenix or similar modern stacks.
- A strong understanding of software development practices: testing, CI/CD, code review, and Agile methodologies.
- Fluency with modern AI development tools, and a clear point of view on how they change the way teams build, hire, and measure impact.
- A proven ability to hire, develop, and retain strong engineering talent. Increasingly, that means hiring for judgment, product sense, and verification skills, not raw output.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience managing delivery across multiple products or initiatives simultaneously.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make decisions with incomplete information.
- A track record of building trust with both your team and cross-functional partners.
- A genuine interest in the growth and well-being of the people you manage.
- Familiarity with REST and GraphQL APIs, database design, and cloud infrastructure is a plus.
- Experience in B2B SaaS, supply chain, or IT asset management is a plus, but not required.
- Lead a team building the platforms that enterprises rely on to manage their IT.
- Real influence over how we build. Your technical instincts and process ideas will shape the team’s direction.
- Significant, ongoing investment in modern tooling, including the best AI tools, and in the people who use it.
- Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and genuine respect for work-life balance.
AHEAD recognizes the value of diverse perspectives. The way you’ve built and led teams, including your wins and your hard-won lessons, will shape how ours grows. Tell us how you think about leadership, what a healthy engineering culture looks like to you, how you believe great teams should build with AI, and the work you’re proudest of helping your teams deliver.
