About the Role
Threat Tec is hiring fluent Tagalog and English speakers to serve as role players for a U.S. Marine Corps advisor training course at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. Marines in this course are preparing to advise foreign security forces overseas. Over five days of realistic, scenario-based exercises, you will portray partner-nation military and civilian leaders, or serve as an interpreter between Marines and those leaders, so students can practice building relationships, negotiating, working through interpreters, and navigating cultural differences.
• Interpreter Role Player: Interpret between U.S. Marines (students) and role players portraying military personnel, public servants, civilian officials, and local nationals, while displaying the real-world interpreter behaviors advisors must learn to manage.
• Specialized Role Player: Portray a scripted military or civilian leader in the scenario country. Roles include military commanders, media professionals (with prop camera and microphone), a doctor, a police chief, and a religious official.
• Study the scenario brief, your role card, and your script before the event, and attend a pre-event read-in and rehearsal.
• Stay in character and in the assigned language for every scenario; mixing languages (for example, Taglish) is not permitted.
• Portray your role authentically, including emotions that fit the scenario such as frustration, pride, suspicion, or grief, within the safety limits set by the Role Player Manager.
• Interpreter Role Players: interpret accurately and naturally between English and Tagalog in face-to-face meetings, negotiations, and key leader engagements.
• Wear the provided military-style uniform or civilian costume and handle inert, non-firing training replicas (mock weapons) according to safety instructions.
• Accept direction, feedback, and on-the-spot corrections from course faculty and the Role Player Manager.
• Provide feedback on student interactions to the Role Player Manager for daily critiques.
• Help lead a Filipino cultural meal on the final day, briefing etiquette, customs, courtesies, and traditional holidays.
• Maintain confidentiality of all scenario materials and follow Threat Tec's code of conduct.
• Must reside within daily commuting distance of Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story (Hampton Roads area, including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, and Newport News). Travel, lodging, mileage, and relocation are not provided.
• Fluent in Tagalog and English, at Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Level 3, Professional Working Proficiency, or higher in both languages. Proficiency will be assessed during screening.
• Cultural knowledge of and experience with the Philippines or Southeast Asia.
• 18 years of age or older.
• Available for all five event days, Monday 02 November through Friday 06 November 2026, for 8–10 hours each day, plus a pre-event read-in.
• Able to obtain military installation access, including completing the SECNAV 5512/1 base-access form and passing installation background screening.
• Valid driver's license, passport, or other government-issued photo ID, carried at all times on the installation.
• Able to complete Form I-9 employment eligibility verification.
• Comfortable performing under pressure, adapting to changing scenarios, and displaying emotion appropriate to a role.
• ILR Level 4 or 5 Tagalog proficiency, or higher education completed in Tagalog or the Philippines, for senior commander and civil-leader roles.
• Prior military, law enforcement, medical, journalism, religious, or public-service experience in the Philippines or the United States that supports a specific role.
• Professional interpreting or translation experience (Interpreter Role Players).
• Prior role-player, actor, or military training-exercise experience.
• Familiarity with Filipino customs, holidays, and food traditions.
