We are looking for a motivated, self-driven intern who is excited to build real software with the help of AI to join our engineering team supporting major retail customers.

Our team is helping these customers move from legacy store systems to a modern technology platform across several projects. The work includes upgrading the back-office web applications store teams use to run day-to-day operations, building new web interfaces for store services, and developing new in-store and mobile applications, from associate-facing tools to customer-facing experiences. AI will be at the center of this role, both in the features you build and in how you build them.

This is an ideal opportunity for a student who likes to take ownership, figure things out independently, and see their work used at scale in the real world.

  • Must be able to work on-site at our Frisco, TX location at least one day per week; two days in-person preferred.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Understanding of AI coding tools such as Claude, Co-Pilot, or OpenAI
  • Understanding of large language models (LLMs), including how they work, prompt engineering, and their strengths and limitations when building AI-powered applications.
  • Programming knowledge in Java and/or JavaScript.
  • Solid understanding of Vue.js or a similar front-end framework (React, Angular)
  • Understanding of web application fundamentals (front end, back end, and how they connect through APIs).
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and figure things out with minimal direction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Strong curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies quickly through hands-on work.
  • Experience building Java back-end services or REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI, including AI agents that plan and carry out multi-step tasks.
  • Understanding of Git, including branching, merging, and pull request workflows.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile practices.
  • Experience writing unit, integration, or automated tests.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and build or deployment tools.
  • Interest in retail technology and point-of-sale systems.
  • Contribute to one of our new Spring 2027 retail projects, such as a new in-store application for store associates or a customer-facing mobile experience.
  • Develop and prototype AI-powered features for new and existing retail applications, such as natural-language search, smart form validation, intelligent data entry, and automated data extraction.
  • Use AI coding assistants such as Claude or Codex as a core part of your daily workflow to write, refactor, debug, and document code, and to ramp up quickly on unfamiliar codebases and technologies.
  • Help build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines, and find ways to bring AI into the build, test, and review process.
  • Help modernize back-office web applications used to manage store data and day-to-day operations, using AI to understand and update existing code.
  • Assist with building and enhancing user interfaces using Vue, and developing and updating the Java back-end services that power them.
  • Support mobile and in-store device application development as new store technology moves from early development toward rollout.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to understand requirements, ask the right questions, and work independently to find solutions.
