Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Data Engineer to make a significant impact in a dynamic and innovative environment. The selected candidate will fill an immediate opening supporting our government customer on-site at Fort Belvoir, VA. Occasional telework will occur only after coordination with the government customer and senior site lead. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with strong technical skills in data engineering, a deep understanding of data architecture, and a passion for optimizing and automating data workflows.
This is an exciting opportunity for a successful applicant to ensure data availability, quality, and reliability for our customers at the Army’s DEVCOM C5ISR Research Technology Integration Directorate. You will collaborate closely with systems engineers, software developers, and other cross-functional teams to play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines and digital infrastructure that enable the organization to extract valuable insights and drive data-informed decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines to ensure data collection, processing, and transformation from various, sometimes disparate, stand-alone sources into a usable format. Data will include simulation data from before, during, and after exercises.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, software developers, and analysts to understand data requirements and implement data transformations that enable advanced analytics and reporting.
- Ensure proper setup, deployment, and maintenance of data infrastructure, including databases, ETL processes, and available cloud resources.
- Implement data quality checks, data validation processes, and monitoring to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data.
- Optimize and fine-tune data processes for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Follow and employ industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in data engineering, data science, and analytics.
- Travel. Occasional travel, < 10%
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related fields, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, and work experience.
- 3+ years of experience designing, developing, operationalizing, and maintaining complex data applications at enterprise scale.
- 2+ years of experience creating software for retrieving, parsing, and processing structured and unstructured data.
- Experience building scalable ETL and ELT workflows for reporting and analytics
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with data integration and orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend, Informatica).
- Understanding of best practices for data governance, data security, and compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- US citizenship is required
- Active Secret security clearance is required
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience with US Military analysis and reporting.
- Experience with US Military simulations such as OneSAF.
- Proficiency in data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and related services (e.g., S3, Redshift, BigQuery).
