Our client is a leading global news organization that delivers trusted journalism and provides technology and services supporting the news industry worldwide. Its digital platforms reach audiences across the globe, with a strong focus on accuracy, reliability, and innovation.

We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to work closely with the Core Web and Core Platform engineering teams on a major platform modernization initiative. The project involves a headless frontend and backend service migration, requiring a proactive quality engineering approach to identify risks, close quality gaps, and ensure production readiness before launch.

In this role, you will own risk-based test strategies, build and maintain end-to-end and API automation suites integrated into CI/CD pipelines, and partner with developers to establish strong testing practices and shared quality ownership. The ideal candidate combines hands-on automation expertise with sound technical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to influence quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

  Partner with Core Web and Core Platform engineering teams throughout planning, development, testing, and release.

  Conduct risk analysis for new features, system changes, and backend migrations to determine testing priorities and coverage.

  Identify and address quality gaps across headless frontend applications and backend services before launch.

  Build, maintain, and improve end-to-end automated test suites using Playwright or Cypress with TypeScript or JavaScript.

  Develop and maintain automated API tests to validate backend services, integrations, and system behavior.

  Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to support reliable, repeatable release validation.

  Collaborate with developers to improve testability, promote quality ownership, and embed testing practices throughout the development lifecycle.

  Define quality metrics, release criteria, and validation strategies to assess launch readiness.

  Use AI-assisted tools to support test design, automation development, and testing efficiency.

  Communicate risks, defects, coverage gaps, and release concerns clearly to engineering stakeholders.

  Continuously improve automation coverage, testing processes, and quality engineering practices.

• 4+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Software QA for web applications and backend systems, with demonstrated ownership of testing strategy and quality outcomes.

• Hands-on experience with web end-to-end automation using Playwright or Cypress and TypeScript or JavaScript.

• Experience with API test automation using tools such as REST Assured, Postman, or code-based testing frameworks.

• Strong understanding of risk-based testing, test strategy, and test coverage prioritization.

• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.

• Proven ability to collaborate with developers as a quality partner and coach, promoting shared ownership rather than functioning solely as a manual tester.

• Experience using AI-assisted tools for test design and automation.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

• Fluent English, with the ability to collaborate directly with distributed engineering teams.
