Operational Finance Intern

Overview

Support the TTX Operational Finance team while gaining an understanding of TTX Company, its owners, the railroad industry, and the connection between field operations and financial performance. The intern will contribute to defined analytics analysis, process improvement, dashboard creation, forecasting, and automation initiatives with meaningful end-to-end deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Learn and assist with quarterly forecasting, reporting, variance analysis, and management presentations.

• Develop and document one to two Microsoft Copilot or AI-enabled automation use cases for a team share-and-learn session.

• Collaborate with Equipment, Maintenance Planning, Shop Operations, and other cross-functional partners.

• Assist with analysis of Field Maintenance Operations (FMO) Optimization project to identify efficiency opportunities, optimize spending, and recommend process improvements in partnership with Field teams.

• Support FMO planning and forecasting process-improvement work, including documenting repeatable workflows and identifying opportunities to reduce cycle time and administrative effort.

• Use current standard operating procedures and other documentation to complete selected month-end journal entries, forecasting, and reporting workflows; identify areas needing clearer direction, automation, or updated documentation.

• Build, validate, and enhance Power BI dashboards and support analyses related to operational and financial performance.

Expected Deliverables and Internship Goals

• Create or enhance a Power BI dashboard and demonstrate competency in dashboard development and validation.

• Present leadership with analysis, findings, and opportunities related to the FMO Optimization project.

• Present a documented Copilot use case, including the workflow, results, and key learnings.

• Contribute to process-improvement initiatives and successfully complete assigned tasks with measurable, well-documented outcomes.

• Go onsite to an FMO/RSO location to gain experience of TTX operations and meet teammates out in the field.

Development Opportunities

• Financial systems and FP&A: Hands-on exposure to Oracle EPBCS/Smart View, GL accounts, maintenance forecasting, and month-end closing.

• Data and technology: Practical experience with Power BI, advanced Excel modeling, pivot-based analysis, template development, and AI/Copilot enablement in corporate finance.

• Business partnership: Exposure to how Finance works with Equipment, Maintenance Planning, Shop Operations, and Field Operations.

Qualifications

• Majors: Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related fields.

• Current Sophomore or Junior pursuing an undergraduate degree.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint; 

• Experience with Power BI, Oracle systems, or data analytics is a plus.

• Interest in financial planning and analysis, operational finance, process improvement, and technology-enabled automation.
