Tubman is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our dynamic team, where you will play a pivotal role in advancing our human resources operations. You will be responsible for managing a range of HR activities, from performing administrative tasks, enhancing employee engagement, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations. This position requires clear effective communication, judgment, and prioritization skills as well as adaptability, reliability, and maintaining integrity and confidentiality. Must possess the ability to work interdependently, be self-driven, multi-task, and remain calm under pressure.
This position is for 32 hours per week and benefit eligible.

Responsibilities
- Assist with day to day operations of the HR functions and duties.
- Answer frequently asked questions from applicants and employees related to policies and procedures, benefits, hiring processes, guidelines, and refer more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
- Perform periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
- Provide administrative support to the HR department and other program leaders with recruiting and hiring, which includes proofreading, editing, and revising job descriptions for posting, and maintaining external job boards and advertisements.
- Review job applications, schedule interviews, complete background, and reference checks, and generate employment letters for new hires, promotions, and transfers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, invoices, and documentation. Compile reports from personnel databases.
- Review and update HR information system records (both electronic database and paper files) in compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
- Function as a liaison between the agency and external benefit providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
- Provide operational support for onboarding new employees, off-boarding employees, distributing and collecting employee badges and office keys, coordination with IT for agency computer and portal access and registration.
- Assist with planning and execution of certain events such as Open Enrollment, agency-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
- Monitor Human Resources calendar and email, jobs email, answer questions, and respond to requests in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experienced with HRIS systems (UKG preferred) and similar computer applications.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Pass DHS Fingerprint Criminal Background Study as required by program licensing.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- HR-related degree preferred.
- 2+ years of prior HR related experience.

The target salary for this position is $23.50 per hour.
