About the Role

  • In-Person Tutoring in San Pedro, CA
  • Schedule: 8 Hours per month, 2 sessions a week for 1 hr
  • Pay range is between $25 and $35

  • Active teaching credential required
  • Experience with the Orton-Gillingham approach required
  • Experience working with students with dyslexia required
  • Experience supporting elementary students with Autism and ADHD
  • Strong background in foundational literacy, including phonics, blending, letter recognition, decoding, and reading comprehension
  • Experience providing structured handwriting and written expression support
  • Comfortable teaching foundational math skills such as number recognition, counting, addition, and subtraction
  • Experience implementing positive behavior support and reinforcement strategies
  • Familiarity with ABA principles and behavior intervention strategies preferred
  • Patient, kind, and encouraging while maintaining clear expectations and consistent boundaries
  • Skilled at breaking academic tasks into small, manageable steps
  • Comfortable providing frequent redirection and maintaining structured routines
  • Able to use token boards, rewards, praise, and other positive reinforcement strategies
  • Creative and engaging, with the ability to make non-preferred academic activities motivating
  • Comfortable providing hands-on, visual, and non-technology-based instruction
  • Able to maintain consistency in session structure and scheduling

Responsibilities

  • →Provide individualized academic instruction aligned with the student's current learning needs
  • →Use Orton-Gillingham-based strategies to provide structured, multisensory literacy instruction
  • →Support phonics, letter recognition, blending, decoding, and foundational reading skills
  • →Build reading comprehension through explicit instruction, guided practice, and appropriately leveled materials
  • →Provide handwriting instruction and support written expression skills
  • →Teach foundational math concepts including number recognition, counting, addition, and subtraction
  • →Break academic tasks into smaller, manageable steps to improve understanding and task completion
  • →Use hands-on materials, visual supports, manipulatives, and interactive activities to reinforce learning
  • →Avoid technology during sessions, as it is highly distracting for Max
  • →Implement clear expectations, consistent routines, and frequent redirection
  • →Use token boards, positive reinforcement, praise, and motivating rewards to encourage participation
  • →Support Max through non-preferred tasks while maintaining a calm, structured, and encouraging approach
  • →Incorporate his interests in Sonic, Minions, Christmas music, movies, decorations, strawberries, bearded dragons, lizards, and nature into lessons and reward systems
  • →Monitor academic and behavioral progress and adjust instruction as needed
  • →Maintain consistency in session structure and expectations to support Max's comfort and success
  • →Collaborate with the student's support team when appropriate to reinforce consistent strategies across settings
