The Discipline, Interpretation, and Enforcement Board (DIE Board) is the 'court' of the Students' Union, responsible for interpreting and enforcing the Bylaws of the Students' Union, and hearing appeals related to student elections. It meets only as required and operates at arm's length from all other parts of the Students' Union.
The Board meets as needed to make rulings about contraventions of Students’ Union legislation, to interpret UASU legislation, or to hear appeals to rulings made by the Chief Returning Officer during UASU general elections. Members may also have the option to sit on the hiring committees for the Chief Returning Officer and Deputy Returning Officer positions. This position often has quick response requirements and, especially during elections, needs to convene under strict and condensed timelines.
This position is selected by a hiring committee composed of DIE Board members, Councilors, and Executives, and ratified by Students' Council.
For more detailed information, please refer to SU Bylaw 140 and the DIE Board Protocol, or send your questions to governance@su.ualberta.ca
