The Director of Student Conduct provides strategic leadership and institutional oversight for the university's student conduct system, ensuring fair, equitable, and legally sound resolution of alleged student and student organization misconduct. This senior-level role is responsible for policy development, complex case adjudication, cross-divisional collaboration, and alignment of conduct practices with the institution's educational mission, values, and risk management priorities. The Director serves as the university's primary expert on student conduct, behavioral intervention, and due process, and plays a critical role in campus safety, compliance, and student development.

UMBC offers competitive compensation.  This role starts at $115,000 and has over 4 weeks of vacation for regular full-time roles. Tuition remission is also available.

Strategic Leadership & Administration:

• Provide leadership and long-term strategic planning for the student conduct program, including continuous assessment and modernization of policies and practices.
• Establish and oversee institutional standards for conduct processes, ensuring consistency, equity, and compliance with federal, state and local regulations (Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA).
• Serve as a senior advisor to Student Affairs leadership. 

Education, Prevention & Assessment

• Lead education initiatives related to student conduct, integrity and community standards. 
• Oversee data collection, trend analysis, and reporting to inform institutional decision-making and risk mitigation. 
• Develop assessment metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and student learning outcomes.

Policy Development & Compliance

• Lead the development, revision, and implementation of the Student Code of Conduct and related policies. 
• Interpret and apply institutional policies in complex, sensitive, or high-profile cases involving academic units, student organizations, and external stakeholders. 

Case Oversight & Adjudication

• Serve as or appoint hearing officers for cases, including complex, high-risk, or precedent-setting matters. 
• Oversee the Appellate Board appeal process, ensuring procedural integrity and fairness. Select, train, and advise members of the student hearing board.

Staff Leadership & Development

• Lead, supervise, and mentor professional and administrative staff within the student conduct office. 
• Establish performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and support ongoing professional development. 

Cross-Campus Collaboration

• Partner with campus leadership, legal counsel, Title IX, campus police, residential life, academic affairs, student disability services, and counseling services to support coordinated responses to student behavior concerns.
• Serve on university committees related to behavioral intervention, crisis response, and student safety. 

Education: 

• Master's degree preferably in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Law or related field
• Demonstrated expertise in student conduct administration, due process, and compliance. 
• Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations impacting higher education.
• Exceptional judgment, discretion, and ability to manage complex, sensitive situations. 

Experience: 

• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in student conduct, student affairs, or a closely related area. 
• Leadership experience: Required to have previous supervisory and leadership experience within a higher education setting.
• Required Areas of Expertise: Demonstrated operational experience in student conduct administration, ensuring due process, and maintaining legal compliance.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of federal and state regulations impacting higher education (Such as Title IX, Clery Act, and FERPA).

Education: 

• Doctorate or Juris Doctorate preferred

Experience: 

• Experience serving as a chief conduct officer or in a senior-level student affairs leadership role.
• Experience handling high-risk, high-profile, or litigation-related cases.
• Training in restorative justice, trauma-informed practices, or behavioral threat assessment.

Salary: $115,000 - $130,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
