The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami (UM) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position that involves validation and improvement of numerical model forecasts from the Hurricane Analysis and Forecast System (HAFS), through improvements to model physics, especially boundary-layer and convective physics, and comparison with relevant observational datasets. He or she will also be responsible for analyzing and interpreting the results, for presenting findings at scientific meetings and for publishing the results in scientific journals. The work will be done in close collaboration with scientists in the Hurricane Research Division (HRD) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Atmospheric Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or in a related field. The successful candidate should have experience with one or more of the following: performing numerical simulations of tropical cyclones, analysis of tropical cyclone numerical model output, and analysis of tropical cyclone observational data. Strong programming and scientific communication skills are required. Experience and familiarity with analysis of tropical cyclone boundary layer structure would be helpful. Finally, familiarity with the areas of research commensurate with the general activities at NOAA’s Hurricane Research Division at AOML would be particularly valuable.
