The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has an exciting full time opportunity for a Senior Ophthalmic Clinic Assistant in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The Senior Ophthalmic Clinic Assistant coordinates the patient flow in and out of the examination rooms, ensures examination rooms are prepared for each visit, and provides general administrative support to the clinic.
- Ensures that clinic examination rooms are clean, orderly, and well stocked, and that all equipment is in good working condition.
- Coordinates the patient flow with emphasis on minimizing patient wait time.
- Orders, dates, and replaces medications, and reports non-working equipment.
- Maintains evaluation and management work-up forms and all other pertinent medical forms to ensure that they are readily available to physicians.
- Logs patient time of arrival on daily physician’s schedule to ensure that all patients are accounted for.
- Expedites the examination of pre-op and post-op patients with special needs.
- Informs patients regarding current clinical studies and provides general information about common diagnostic and special procedures.
- Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, registration, HIM, and the Financial and Business Office.
- Confers with and makes suggestions to physicians and managers regarding improvements in patient flow.
- Cleans and sanitizes examination rooms in between each patient and plans examination room assignments to eliminate delay in patient care.
- Ensures that medical charts and photo charts are available with appropriate forms at the time of appointment or examination.
- Answers telephone in a professional and diligent manner, relays messages in a timely fashion, and follows up.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets

- Displays intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.
- Exhibits ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using EMR telehealth platform.
- Demonstrates competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups.
- Prepares patients for intravitreal injections.
- Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
