As a leading Enterprise Kubernetes Software Platform Suite, Rancher addresses the operations and security challenges of managing multiple Kubernetes clusters at scale, while providing DevOps teams with integrated tools for running and securing containerized workloads.
RGS supports the entire Rancher Kubernetes Platform Suite through U.S. Citizen, U.S. soil-based support representatives. A large majority of RGS employees maintain security clearances and currently support mission-critical programs across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and Federal Civilian agencies.
As a DevSecOps Engineer (Air Force) at Rancher Government Solutions, you will be a strategic technical force responsible for delivering expert-level implementation within a team of engineers and architects, driving mission success focused on the Rancher portfolio of products within U.S. Air Force programs and environments. You will work directly with our cleared Air Force clients, providing deep technical engineering support, architectural guidance, and hands-on keyboard engineering activity to ensure their complex container, CI/CD, DevOps, infrastructure, and Kubernetes initiatives are successful. This role is instrumental in translating mission requirements into robust, secure, and scalable production environments.
Responsibilities
~1 min readLead the deployment, configuration, and integration of the Rancher product portfolio within U.S. Air Force cloud, edge, and on-premise mission environments.
Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) workflows to streamline application delivery and cluster management across DoD environments.
Perform deep-level troubleshooting of Kubernetes clusters, container networking, and security configurations.
Collaborate with Air Force technical teams and mission partners to ensure Rancher solutions are optimized for their specific operational requirements.
Act as a trusted technical advisor, providing guidance on best practices for container orchestration, security hardening, and DevSecOps workflows in accordance with DoD and USAF standards.
Develop proof-of-concepts (PoCs) to demonstrate the value of Rancher and adjacent open-source technologies in solving specific Air Force operational challenges.
Translate customer requirements into technical tasks and ensure timely delivery of engineering milestones.
Leverage deep technical knowledge of virtualization infrastructure and security protocols to deploy, improve, and harden complex infrastructure against rigorous military standards.
Develop reusable scripts and templates to build rapid development and test systems, ensuring consistent and repeatable environments for rapid prototyping.
Assist in the resolution of performance issues; work with developers to troubleshoot application deployment failures to ensure mission readiness.
Assist in providing guidance to fellow DevSecOps developers and administrators while interfacing effectively with multiple technical disciplines in a team environment.
Contribute to the internal RGS engineering knowledge base by documenting unique customer configurations and solutions.
Work closely with the Senior DevSecOps team to provide feedback from the field to influence product roadmaps.
Help mentor Associate engineers and participate in peer code/architecture reviews.

Requirements
~1 min readBachelor’s degree or 5+ years of professional or military experience.
3–5 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Systems Engineering, with a focus on containerized workloads and infrastructure automation within DoD/Air Force environments.
1–2 years of experience in Kubernetes administration, container runtimes (Docker/containerd), and Linux internals.
Requires active Secret or Top Secret Clearance with eligibility for SCI.
Strong experience with U.S. Air Force software factories (e.g., Platform One, Big Bang) and DoD DevSecOps reference architectures.
Strong experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, ArgoCD, or Jenkins) and configuration management/IaC (Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi).
Understanding of DoD DevSecOps principles, including STIG compliance, DoD cATO processes, and container hardening.
Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to military stakeholders and work effectively in a consultative environment.
