Urschel Laboratories, INC. is seeking a Materials & Manufacturing Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to work alongside our engineering team on a variety of projects that support and improve manufacturing processes at Urschel. This internship provides hands-on experience in materials engineering and manufacturing operations while offering the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and gain practical experience in a global manufacturing environment.

Urschel designs and manufactures industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries worldwide from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment daily. Advanced manufacturing technologies are utilized at our climate-controlled, clean, and environmentally conscious facility.

Responsibilities

  • →Learn and gain hands-on experience with systems, processes, and equipment used through Urschel and the Metallurgical Lab
  • →Assist with failure analysis investigations and materials-related evaluations
  • →Support manufacturing challenges, process development, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • →Provide technical support to engineering and manufacturing teams
  • →Participate in projects focused on improving manufacturing efficiency, quality, and performance.
  • →Document findings, prepare reports, and communicate project updates as needed.
  • →Support additional engineering projects and initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate engineering program at an accredited university. Materials, Manufacturing, or Process Engineering majors are preferred but not required.
  • CAD experience is preferred; SolidWorks experience is a plus.
  • Must be entering junior or senior standing with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate integrity, dependability, attention to detail, and professionalism when handling confidential information.
