Position Overview:
The Senior Manager of National Security Policy will help manage several of CSNS’ active policy committees, including the National Security Task Force, Project Security, the Federal Acquisition Council, and the Defense and Aerospace Council. These committees include Chamber members representing a broad spectrum of the nation’s economy.
The Senior Manager is an integral member of the division’s team and will have diverse responsibilities in two main areas: policy development and execution in the defense and acquisition space, supporting the international cybersecurity program of work. This person will help plan and execute international delegations, including aspects of policy coordination, event logistics, sponsor recruitment, and delegation management, and contribute to the policy-related content of discussions and meetings.
The successful candidate will oversee internal and external content, including the website, marketing materials, and thought leadership, by guiding and mentoring a junior team member. The candidate will also draft policy memos and talking points and conduct extensive internal coordination and engagement with Chamber members and external U.S. and foreign contacts (e.g., U.S. and foreign governments, other organizations and associations, and vendors).
Responsibilities:
Work closely with division leadership to develop policy initiatives, programs, and member services to support key policy verticals, including the Defense and Aerospace Council, the Federal Acquisition Council, the NATO Summit Defense Industry Forum, the Cyber Leadership Council, and international cyber delegations.
Draft reports, memos, formal remarks and talking points, blogs, as well as communications on defense, cyber, and other national security policies and programs.
Manage correspondence to members, including drafting invites, attending member meetings, and organizing policy engagements.
Help with policy programing, including the Chamber’s Global Aerospace Summit.
Track the Federal Register for opportunities for Chamber input.
Serve as the main point of contact to synthesize member contributions to Chamber comment letters.
Write blogs and work with the Communications team to raise the profile of the cyber, defense, and national security programs.
Attend meetings, congressional hearings, and briefings and prepare summaries for internal and external use.
Respond to member company inquiries, help identify prospective members, and support member engagement activities.
Oversee engagement with the staff of senior U.S. and foreign government officials.
Maintain CRM lists.
Maintain congressional outreach.
Mentor junior members and interns of the CSNS team.
Manage event preparation, including directing budget decisions and tracking; building program content; engaging with the Chamber’s Member Relations Division to develop and fill audience goals; coordinating with speakers; and drafting event briefing memoranda, remarks, and talking points.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ related experience in operations, project management, fundraising, member relations, national security/international security policy, or related fields.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish strong professional relationships with flexibility and conscientiousness.
Creative and strategic thinking with emphasis on customer service to meet client objectives.
Superior interpersonal and organizational skills to plan and execute complex events.
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and deadlines, operate under pressure, and exercise strong judgment in making independent decisions, all while maintaining a sense of humor—and humanity.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, notably, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
The salary range for this position is $83,498.00 to $86,000.00. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant’s qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Our full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including health care, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.
