US Mobile is building the future of wireless communication. The goal: one unified network open to any person and any device, worldwide. Connection without walls.

We’re getting there by empowering customers. All three major networks on one phone and one plan, plus home internet from Starlink. No lock-in. No commitments. Custom fit plans at every price point. 24/7 customer support with real people, empowered to help. We get real-time feedback from Reddit, surveys, and customer support informing product roadmaps and everything we do. It’s working — we’re The Wirecutter’s favorite cellular carrier, and Consumer Reports has named us the top-rated mobile carrier two years in a row.*

And we’re building innovative systems that scale. A network agnostic tech stack. Agile, cross-functional teams built on trust and mutual respect. This work isn’t for everyone. If you work fast, flexibly, and collaboratively — without compromising standards — we want to hear from you.

We’re looking for a Chief Technology Officer to own the technology vision and engineering execution behind US Mobile’s platform. You’ll unify our frontend and backend engineering organizations — currently led by a Lead Frontend Engineer and Lead Backend Engineer, each building out their teams — into one coherent technical strategy, and sit at the executive table alongside the CEO, founders, and leaders across Product, Data, Growth, Finance and Strategy. As a company that’s scaling fast, this is a rare opportunity to shape both the architecture and the culture of engineering from the ground up.

  • Define and own technology vision — set the company's technology strategy and long-term technical roadmap; assess the platform's technical health and decide where we invest, refactor, or rebuild.
  • Unify engineering — align the frontend and backend organizations into one coherent architecture and technical strategy as each team scales.
  • Lead architecture and execution — drive the architecture, development, deployment, and scaling of our technology platform, and stay hands-on with code reviews, technical design, and critical engineering problems.
  • Own infrastructure and reliability — oversee cloud infrastructure, DevOps, security, observability, and production reliability, and proactively identify and address technical risk.
  • Build and lead the organization — hire, mentor, and retain exceptional engineering talent, including the Lead Backend and Lead Frontend Engineers and the teams they build.
  • Set the bar — establish engineering standards, development processes, and a culture of ownership, speed, experimentation, and excellence.
  • Measure what matters — establish metrics and processes for engineering productivity, system reliability, and product quality.
  • Evaluate what's next — assess new technologies, frameworks, and AI capabilities, and determine where they create meaningful business value.
  • Partner at the executive level — work with the CEO, leaders across Product, Data, Growth, Finance, and Strategy to translate company objectives into technical strategy, and represent our technical vision to customers, partners, and investors when needed.
  • CEO & Executive Leadership — shape company-wide strategy and represent engineering at the leadership table
  • Product — align technical roadmap with customer-facing priorities and feature delivery
  • Data — ensure the platform surfaces the data needed to inform decisions across the business
  • Growth — support experimentation and scalable systems behind acquisition, activation, and retention initiatives
  • Finance — inform budgeting, forecasting, and investment decisions with technical cost and capacity realities.
  • Strategy — connect technical investment decisions to long-term business and market positioning
  • Engineering Leadership — guide and grow Backend and Frontend Engineering teams we’re building
  • Our stack spans backend services, customer-facing web and mobile experiences, and the cloud infrastructure that ties it all together:

  • Java (Spring Boot and related web frameworks) and Python (Flask, Django) for RESTful services
  • Asynchronous service communication via RabbitMQ and AWS SQS/SNS
  • MongoDB and other NoSQL technologies for data modeling and storage
  • TypeScript and React, with CSS-in-JS and equivalent styling approaches
  • State management and data fetching via Tanstack Query, Redux, and Zustand
  • React Native for cross-platform mobile experiences, with Rust adopted where performance or architecture demands
  • Cloud infrastructure on AWS (preferred), GCP, or Azure
  • CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and modern monitoring and observability tooling
  • Claude, Opencode, and similar tools woven into the SDLC for code generation, automated review, documentation, and design efficiency
  • 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience in backend, frontend, systems, and/or platform engineering
  • Previous experience leading engineering teams, technical projects, or a technology organization
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on development experience
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, system architecture, databases, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and scalability
  • Experience designing and operating production systems at scale
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (preferred), GCP, or Azure
  • Experience with modern infrastructure, CI/CD, containers, monitoring, and observability
  • Strong product mindset and ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes
  • Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams — including Product, Data, Growth, Finance and Strategy — to align technology with company priorities
  • Proven ability to operate in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment
  • Excellent leadership, communication, hiring, and mentoring skills
  • Ability to work onsite in New York City
  • Annual company offsites
  • Competitive Salary
  • Gym reimbursement
  • Commute reimbursement
  • Flexible working hours
  • Professional development stipend
  • Flexible time off
  • Cell phone service (up to $100/mo)
