The Lead Cake Decorator is responsible for preparing and decorating cakes, pastries, and other baked goods while also providing training and guidance to new cake decorators. This role helps maintain bakery display cases with fresh, appealing products, ensures consistency in quality and accuracy in customer orders, and delivers exceptional customer service.

  Customer Service: Greet and assist customers with cake and bakery orders in-store or by phone.

  Team Support: Train, mentor, and support cake decorators while promoting safety, teamwork, and high performance.

  Product Quality: Prepare, decorate, and finish cakes and pastries to company standards and customer requests.

  Merchandising: Merchandise and rotate products to keep displays fresh and attractive.

• →

  Compliance & Safety: Follow Vallarta’s Bakery Safety Program, company policies, weights and measures, and health code regulations.

  Operations: Monitor oven and proofer temperatures, order from approved vendors, maintain accurate inventory, and control department expenses.

  Sanitation: Clean equipment, work areas, and display cases to maintain a professional and sanitary environment.

  Other Duties: Perform additional tasks assigned to support bakery operations and customer satisfaction.

• Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).

• Frequently bend, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.

• Frequent use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.

• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (flour, sugar, boxes).

• Longest distance carried: 20 feet.

• Work near ovens, mixers, and other bakery equipment.

• Exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and occasional work at heights.

• Friendly, customer-focused attitude with leadership ability.

• Knowledge of cake mixes, fillings, frostings, and decorating tools (pastry bags, tubes, colors, textures).

• Experience decorating cakes and preparing pastries in a retail or professional setting.

• Ability to mentor and train others while ensuring quality and consistency.

• Knowledge of bakery equipment, tools, and ingredients.

• Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).

• Ability to perform simple math calculations.

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

• Fast-paced retail setting with direct customer interaction.

• Exposure to perishable products, bakery equipment, and changing temperatures.

• Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
