Medical Assistant - 502

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support services to patients and healthcare providers within Valle del Sol's integrated healthcare environment. Under the supervision of a licensed provider, the Medical Assistant assists with patient intake, vital signs, specimen collection, medication administration, documentation, care coordination, patient education, and other clinical support functions necessary to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Using a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and patient-centered approach, the Medical Assistant supports quality patient outcomes, promotes continuity of care, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services across primary care, behavioral health, psychiatry, addiction medicine, and other clinical service lines.

Medical Assistant I

• 0–2 years of applied medical assisting experience.
• Develops proficiency in clinical workflows, patient care support, documentation, and organizational procedures.
• Performs routine duties with guidance and support as needed.

Medical Assistant II

• 2–5 years of applied medical assisting experience.
• Demonstrates proficiency across clinical operations and patient care support functions.
• Functions independently in most routine situations.
• Serves as a resource for less experienced staff members.

Medical Assistant III

• 5+ years of applied medical assisting experience.
• Demonstrates advanced competency across clinical operations and patient care support functions.
• Serves as a mentor and resource to other Medical Assistants.
• Supports onboarding, training, workflow improvement initiatives, and special projects as assigned.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be able to pass pre- and continued employment screenings successfully.

Employees must maintain compliance with all Valle del Sol policies and applicable regulatory requirements, which may include:

• Licensure, certification, credentialing, and/or privileging requirements applicable to the position.
• Required immunizations and occupational health clearances.
• Tuberculosis (TB) testing and Hepatitis B screening or declination, when applicable.
• Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card when required by law or program.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record when operating a vehicle for company business.
• Completion and maintenance of required training, certifications, and continuing education.

Primary Care

• →Support family medicine, pediatrics, women's health, and primary care services.
• →Assist with preventive care, chronic disease management, immunizations, screenings, and routine procedures.
• →Support UDS measures, population health initiatives, and care gap closure activities.

Psychiatry Services

• →Support psychiatric providers with patient intake, medication monitoring, vital signs, documentation, and care coordination.
• →Assist with medication administration, injections, laboratory coordination, and patient education.
• →Support behavioral health and integrated care workflows.

Addiction Medicine / OTP

• →Support addiction medicine and medication-assisted treatment services.
• →Assist with specimen collection, medication administration, laboratory testing, and patient monitoring.
• →Support coordination between behavioral health, medical, nursing, and recovery support services.
• →Assist with program-specific documentation and regulatory requirements.

Float Assignment

• →Provide coverage across multiple Valle del Sol clinic locations, programs, and service lines based on operational needs.
• →Adapt to varying workflows, providers, patient populations, and clinic environments.
• →Travel between assigned locations as needed.
• →Support continuity of operations during vacancies, leaves, training periods, and fluctuations in staffing levels.
• →May be assigned to Primary Care, Psychiatry Services, Addiction Medicine, or other clinical service lines.
• →Reliable transportation required for employees assigned to Float positions.

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant training program.

Preferred:

• Associate degree in a healthcare-related field.

Required:

Medical Assistant I

Medical Assistant II

• 2–5 years of applied medical assistant experience in a healthcare, medical office, clinic, or related healthcare environment.

Medical Assistant III

• 5+ years of applied medical assistant experience in a healthcare, medical office, clinic, or related healthcare environment.

Preferred:

• Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) experience.
• Integrated healthcare experience.
• Experience using electronic health record systems.

Required:

• Must meet qualifications for and maintain Medical Assistant credentialing requirements throughout employment.
• Must meet the licensure, certification, or credentialing requirements applicable to the position in accordance with Arizona law and applicable regulatory authorities.
• Must practice within the scope of the applicable credential(s) consistent with organizational policies and the needs of the populations served.
• BLS certification, or ability to obtain within 5 days of start date.
• Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card, or ability to obtain within 5 days of start date.

Preferred:

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) or equivalent nationally recognized certification.

Employees who maintain an approved Medical Assistant certification may be eligible for a certification differential in accordance with organizational compensation practices.

This position may operate in clinical, office, or community settings including clinics, administrative offices, outreach locations, client homes, partner agencies, and community sites. Employees may interact with individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges, emotional distress, or complex social needs. Standard safety precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required as applicable.

Work schedules may vary based on program needs and may include evening or weekend hours. Some positions may require local travel between Valle del Sol sites or community locations.

Employees may operate standard office, clinical, and communication equipment including computers, phones, printers, electronic health record systems, laptops, and mobile devices.
