Valspec—a global provider of system validation and lifecycle services—provides commissioning and qualification of computerized systems for clients in the Life Sciences industry. Established in 1999, Valspec’s mission is to provide a wide spectrum of services that help its clients meet their capital project and lifecycle maintenance goals.

Valspec’s projects are critical to the industry, and to the people who rely on its products. Many projects ensure that life-changing drugs are available to those who need them; others streamline production to meet demand at a lower cost, allowing for the discovery of new and innovative therapies.

Valspec is looking for an entry-level Validation Engineer interested in automation, control systems, and life sciences manufacturing.

This is a great opportunity for a recent engineering graduate who wants to build hands-on experience with the computerized and automated systems used to manufacture pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biologics, and cell and gene therapy products. You’ll learn how these systems are tested and validated to help ensure manufacturing processes operate safely, consistently, and in compliance with industry requirements.

Experience through a co-op or internship in life sciences, chemical or industrial engineering, manufacturing, automation, or a related technical environment is preferred, but not required. This position is based in Royersford, PA and may occasionally require travel to client sites.

  • →Test system components and functionality, which may include controllers, servers, network switches, virtual machines, batch execution, security, and HMI configuration.
  • →Document testing results accurately and identify issues or deviations discovered during testing.
  • →Author deviations for failed test steps and perform required retesting.
  • →Assist with the preparation and review of qualification and validation summary reports.
  • →Collaborate with Valspec engineers, project teams, and client personnel to support successful project execution.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Recent bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong interest in automation, control systems, validation, and life sciences manufacturing.
  • Internship, co-op, academic project, or early-career experience involving automation, manufacturing, process controls, or engineering is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of engineering documentation and automated systems such as PLC, DCS, SCADA, MES, or industrial networks is helpful.
  • Exposure to Emerson DeltaV, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or Honeywell systems is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous exposure to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or another FDA-regulated environment is preferred, but not required.
  • Exposure to IQ, OQ, PQ, commissioning, qualification, or validation testing is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, technical writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Most importantly, a willingness to learn and develop your technical skills.

For an engineer early in their career, Valspec provides an opportunity to gain experience with automation and validation projects supporting leading life sciences manufacturers. You'll work alongside experienced engineers while developing practical skills in computer system validation, automation, commissioning, and qualification.
