Assistant Controller

• →Serve as the primary owner of the carrier reporting and bordereaux reconciliation process, reviewing policy-level reporting, commissions, and related payment activity for accuracy and completeness.

• →Act as a liaison among the Data, Finance, Product, and Program departments to identify discrepancies, determine root causes, and coordinate timely solutions with internal teams and carrier partners

• →Lead or support the implementation and improvement of accounting, reporting, and operational workflows by leveraging technology, automation, and AI to enhance efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and internal controls

• →Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure account accuracy

• →Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes

• →Review and approve accounts payable invoices, expense reports, and payment requests in accordance with company policies

• →Manage the company's payment platform (Ramp) – including user administration, expense management, policy enforcement, and invoice approval workflows

• →Monitor and reconcile banking activity and assist with ACH payments, wire transfers, and positive pay approvals

• →Maintain general ledger accounts and supporting documentation

• →Prepare, review, and post journal entries to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting

• →Collaborate with departments across the organization to identify and resolve inaccurate or incomplete information affecting financial reporting and accounting records

• →Analyze financial data and account activity to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement

• →Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and supporting documentation

• →Assist in maintaining and enhancing accounting procedures and internal controls

• →Ensure compliance with accounting standards, insurance regulations, trust accounting requirements, and company policies

• →Utilize advanced Excel functions including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and other data analysis tools

• →Support special projects, system implementations, and process improvement initiatives as assigned

• →Required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accounts payable, and financial reporting

• Experience with month-end close processes required

• Relevant insurance industry accounting experience required

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting software, and financial databases – with the ability to manipulate and analyze large volumes of financial data

• Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations

• Experience with accounting systems, expense management platforms, and financial reporting tools preferred

• Knowledge of trust accounting and trust laws preferred

• CPA license or active progress toward CPA preferred

• Public accounting experience preferred

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across finance, operations, and cross-functional teams

• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadline pressure

Compensation Range: $110k/yr - $120k/yr
