Technical Support Engineer - Power
Quick Summary
AC Critical Power: Large, medium,
The Technical Support Engineer – Critical Power Systems provides regional technical support for critical power infrastructure across data centre, telecommunications, industrial and mission-critical applications.
The role provides technical ownership of complex field issues from product introduction and commissioning through fault investigation, escalation, root cause analysis, corrective action and lifecycle support. The engineer works closely with Customer Engineers, commissioning teams, service operations, product offering, engineering, quality, factories and customers throughout Asia Pacific.
This is not a traditional helpdesk role. The position requires strong electrical and power-electronics knowledge, practical field experience and the ability to understand interactions across complete electrical systems rather than individual pieces of equipment.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Take technical ownership of complex faults and escalations through to resolution.
- →Analyse alarms, event logs, waveforms, measurements, settings and operating sequences.
- →Lead technical investigations and Root Cause Analysis, identifying equipment, installation, application, configuration and system-level causes.
- →Provide remote and onsite support during troubleshooting, commissioning, integrated system testing and critical site events.
- →Review commissioning procedures, test scripts and technical documentation.
- →Coordinate escalations with Engineering, Quality, Product Management and manufacturing facilities.
- →Support New Product Development Introduction, first-of-type installations and regional technical readiness.
- →Develop service procedures, troubleshooting guides, technical advisories, service bulletins, training material and customer technical reports.
- →Deliver technical training, practical fault scenarios and mentoring to field personnel.
- →Identify recurring field issues and support permanent corrective actions and continuous product improvement.
- →Provide technical input into spare-parts strategy, obsolescence and end-of-life support.
- →Maintain a strong focus on electrical safety including isolation, backfeed, stored energy, arc-flash, earthing, bonding and high-energy DC systems.
The role supports a broad portfolio of critical power technologies, including:
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong knowledge of:
- Three-phase electrical systems and power electronics.
- Electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and wiring diagrams.
- Rectifier and inverter operation and control.
- UPS, generator, transformer and load interaction.
- Power-quality analysis including harmonics, THDv, THDi, TDD, power factor, voltage disturbances and resonance.
- AC and DC protection, isolation, earthing and backfeed conditions.
- Event-log, waveform and Power Quality Analyser interpretation.
- Integrated system testing and complex fault finding.
- Applicable IEC, IEEE and local electrical standards.
Requirements
~1 min readElectrical Engineering qualification, electrical trade qualification with significant relevant experience, or equivalent industry experience.
Experience in critical power, data centres or telecommunications is highly desirable, particularly with UPS systems, TELCO rectifiers, 400–800 VDC systems, STS, generators, switchboards, busway, battery systems, energy storage or power-quality equipment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate methodical troubleshooting, strong technical judgement, ownership through to closure, clear customer communication and the ability to remain effective during critical site events.
Resolve complex technical issues safely, accurately and efficiently while increasing the capability of the wider service organisation and ensuring lessons from the field are converted into improved products, procedures, training and service outcomes.
