Reporting to the Senior Manager of Operations, the Senior Site Reliability Engineer will be responsible for scaling the global VETRO FiberMap platform in order to deliver the next generation of GIS fiber management software.

• →Reliability & Availability: Establish and improve SLIs/SLOs, monitoring, alerting, and platform health.
• →Cloud Infrastructure: Build, operate, and optimize scalable cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code and modern deployment practices.
• →Observability: Ensure we can quickly understand platform performance, failures, dependencies, and customer impact.
• →Incident Management: Improve detection, response, root-cause analysis, postmortems, and prevention of recurring incidents. Help mature production on-call procedures and participate in off-hours support rotations.
• →Automation: Automate deployments, remediation, infrastructure management, capacity planning, and repetitive operational work.
• →Performance & Scale: Contribute to the scaling and development of the VETRO FiberMap platform using modern cloud infrastructure tools and architectures.
  • →Identify bottlenecks and improve application, database, infrastructure, and network performance as customer usage grows.
  • →Optimize the performance of large datasets running on top of tools such as Postgres, NATS, mapping and tile services, and more.
• →Developer Enablement: Design and develop platform tools to empower software engineers to integrate and deliver software solutions with high quality and frequency. Improve CI/CD, deployment safety, environments, tooling, and developer self-service.
• →Security & Resilience: Apply security best practices to all aspects of the infrastructure. Partner with Engineering and Security Consultant on access controls, vulnerability management, disaster recovery, backups, and business continuity. Gather evidence for security audits such as SOC 2.
• →AI-Enabled Operations: Use AI and intelligent automation to accelerate troubleshooting, analyze logs and incidents, identify patterns, improve documentation, and reduce operational toil.
• →Cost Efficiency: Monitor cloud utilization and help ensure infrastructure spend scales efficiently with the business.

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Geographic Information Science, or significant professional experience
• 5+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or a similar role
• Demonstrable expertise in:
  • Provisioning, deploying, and supporting highly available cloud-based infrastructure on AWS or similar platforms.
  • Applying DevOps and CI/CD practices in an Agile Development-based software development life cycle
  • Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, observability, and incident management
  • Troubleshooting complex distributed systems across applications, databases, networks, and infrastructure
  • Strong scripting or Agile software engineering skills
    • Proficient with scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
    • Experience working with spatial data and relational databases (PostgreSQL, PostGIS)
  • Data and systems security, and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2
• Strong problem solving skills and the ability to break down complex issues
• Comfortable working in a growth-stage environment where priorities evolve quickly
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, positive, and supportive environment, and contribute to our culture of learning; enthusiasm to work on new things and a readiness to jump in and contribute.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to work across Engineering, Product, Security, and Customer teams
• Experience improving reliability through engineering rather than simply adding operational process
• Interest in using AI and automation to fundamentally improve how reliability engineering gets done
• What skills are helpful:
  • A solid understanding of Terraform and infrastructure as code best practice
  • Linux based system administration
  • A familiarity with or interest in Node.js and Golang
  • A devotion to keeping up with and implementing security best practices and processes

• This role will work in our Portland, ME HQ in a hybrid capacity.
• In a hybrid role you are expected to have a designated space that is conducive to productivity and conducting confidential video calls. VETRO will assist with technology needed to set up your home office, as well as offer a semi-monthly internet stipend. While working remotely, you are expected to be distraction-free from non-work responsibilities during working hours.
