Lab Technician (Hourly) | SOM | Internal Medicine

• →Setting up and performing experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff.
• →Support cell culture maintenance and perform molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, WB, ICC, cloning)
• →Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
• →Maintains equipment, preparing stock solutions and supplies.
• →Helps monitor compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.
• →Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and follow all safety protocols
• →Laboratory and instrument maintenance, training and support.
• →Daily bench work involving perform lab technical protocols.
• →Independently handling and maintaining advanced instrumentation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Health Science studies, or related field.

• General laboratory skills and lab experience
• Demonstrated ability to perform data entry and analysis using Microsoft Excel
• Demonstrated ability to perform tasks with precision and consistency
• Experience in working with human cell lines and perform cell transfections, cell viability assays.
• Demonstrated independence in performing cloning, western blots, RNA purifications, PCR and real-time PCR and relative quantification analysis.
• Knowledge in relevant scientific field, research techniques and methods
• Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures
• Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset for a team environment
• Critical thinking and problem-solving
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
