The newly established Department of Urology at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine invites applications for a visionary and accomplished scholar to serve as Vice Chair for Research. This full-time leadership role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and elevate the department’s research enterprise. Academic rank, tenure status, and compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Our mission is to deliver exceptional, innovative, and impactful research through team science and robust collaborative partnerships—advancing medical knowledge and improving outcomes for patients with urologic conditions.

We aim to foster a fully integrated research ecosystem that connects clinical, educational, and scientific faculty across the Department, the University, the Health System, and external partners. Our goals include:

  • Driving transformational research through team science
  • Securing external funding to build and sustain innovative programs
  • Supporting faculty and trainees in high-impact scholarship
  • Upholding the highest standards of research integrity aligned with VCU’s core values

By achieving these goals, we will amplify our research capacity and cultivate a culture of creativity and innovation.

The Vice Chair for Research will work closely with the Department Chair to develop and execute a long-term strategic vision that bridges basic science and clinical application—translating discoveries from bench to bedside. The ideal candidate will lead the development of infrastructure that supports clinical, translational, community-based, and educational research. We are particularly interested in individuals whose work addresses the fundamental mechanisms of urologic disease through genetic, molecular, or therapeutic innovation. The role will be enhanced by a transformational gift to the Department of Urology supporting research, education, and clinical excellence.
