Assistant Driller

Virtucruit is partnering with a leading mining company in Saudi Arabia to appoint an Assistant Driller within the Drilling Department.

Drill Operations: Assisting with activities on the drill, including mixing drilling fluids, assembling drilling tools, connecting sections of drill pipe, and operating machinery. Assist the driller in equipment Operation: Operating machinery to raise and lower the drill string and bit, maintaining speed of rotation, weight on the bit, and mud circulation rate. Sample Collection – Ensure bags/cores are labeled correctly, are legible, kept in numeric order according to designated footages and closed securely

• Ensures the highest level of safety, health and environmental work standards are maintained.
• Safety Compliance: Adhering to all health and safety regulations and procedures.
• Carry out inspections and simple repairs on Surface and Underground exploration drill rigs - Epiroc Boyles and Diamec. Coordinate more difficult repairs with the Lead driller and M&R team
• Record Keeping: Keeping records of drilling conditions, measurements, and progress.
• Logistics and Maintenance: Supporting the lead driller in logistics and maintenance activities.
• Assist in rigging up/down and moving to new drill locations.
• Fueling of site equipment and assist in preventative maintenance (Oil Changes, Greasing, Fueling, etc.)
• Complete daily site inspections, mast inspections and pre-shift inspections on all equipment.
• Maximize Core recovery and monitor hole direction targets
• Trouble shooting of complex down hole problems
• Identify basic mechanical issues on the drill rig
• Maintain a safe work site and equipment
• Comply with Health & Safety requirements and regulations
• Other duties assigned by Lead Driller/ Drilling Supervisor
• Supports the development and training of local nationals by providing mentorship, guidance and coaching, leading to their growth and development.

• Standard First Aid Certification (Basic Safety Orientation is an asset)
• Technical Diploma or High School with equivalent years of experience.
• 5+ years of experience in Surface and Underground exploration drill rigs (Epiroc, Boart Longyear and Sandvik preferred).
• Previous experience working on a RC / Diamond Core Drill rig (Preferred)
• Physical Stamina: The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
• Basic Knowledge of Drilling Operations: Understanding of drilling processes and procedures.
• Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate record-keeping and proper equipment operation.
• Teamwork: Working effectively with the lead driller and other members of the drilling crew. Good English communication skills (both oral and written).
• Willing to travel as required.
• Willing to work outside and/or in a shop environment.
• Holding a transferable Iqama and being available in the Kingdom is an advantage.
• Must be able to drive light 4x4 vehicle and hold a Valid Driver's License
• Local to the KSA or willing to relocate. (Rooster offered for Expats)
• Willingness to work in shifts / flexible time schedules
• Willing to work in remote locations and in all-weather elements

Assistant drillers can be trained to become lead drillers, requiring experience and specialized training.
