Diesel Mechanic (Frederickson, WA)

Pierce County Refuse Lemay, a Waste Connections Company, is seeking a reliable, safety-focused Diesel Mechanic in Frederickson, WA, to support our heavy-duty truck maintenance operations.

This position offers competitive hourly pay, a CDL premium, and a swing shift differential. This is a full-time, year-round opportunity for experienced diesel mechanics seeking to work in a stable, safety-driven environment with long-term career growth.

Compensation

• Mechanic Pay: $37.00 – $41.00/hour (DOE)

• CDL Premium: +$1.00/hour for CDL holders

• Shift Differential: +$1.50/hour for swing shift

• Tool Allowance: $125.00/month

• Shift: Monday – Friday, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM]

• Overtime: Average [8–10 hours/week], paid at 1.5x

  Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks and trailers

• →

  Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems

• →

  Utilize diagnostic tools and software (Cummins Insite, Davie-4, Allison DOC) to troubleshoot issues

• →

  Conduct DOT and OSHA-compliant safety inspections

• →

  Review and address Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)

• →

  Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks as needed

• →

  Test drive vehicles to verify repair quality and performance

• →

  Accurately document repairs, parts usage, and labor using fleet maintenance systems

• →

  Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment

• →

  Communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, and team members

• →

  Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

• Work performed in both shop and outdoor environments

• Exposure to noise, grease, fumes, dust, and varying weather conditions

• Work around heavy trucks, machinery, and active yard operations

• Ability to stand, bend, climb, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods

• Ability to lift, carry, and move items over 50 pounds regularly

• Minimum of 1 year of diesel mechanic, heavy truck, or equipment repair experience (3+ years preferred for Mechanic level roles)

• Valid driver’s license required

• CDL preferred or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe

• Must have the personal tools required to perform job duties

• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics

• Welding and fabrication experience preferred

• Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and safety regulations

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team
