POSITION PURPOSE
The Video and Multimedia Producer develops engaging video and multimedia content for digital and social media channels. Combining creative vision with strong editorial and technical skills, the Producer tells the Whitman College story in dynamic ways that capture attention and support the college’s strategic goals, with a focus on reaching prospective students.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supervisory Duties
- This role typically supervises at least one student employee.
Video Production & Photography (55%)
- Research, pitch and develop compelling multimedia stories that align with institutional priorities—with an emphasis on content and storytelling for enrollment recruitment.
- Develop video, photo and content that highlights the student experience, academic programs, immersive learning, alumni outcomes, campus life and community to support recruitment goals.
- Capture high-quality video/photography for a wide variety of needs and projects, including day-to-day campus life, marketing content, Admission events and features.
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics for video/photo shoots.
- Edit video/photos for distribution across digital platforms, ensuring consistency with brand standards. Manage post-production, including color correction, audio mixing, graphics and final delivery.
- Ensure all content reflects the college’s brand, values, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Digital Asset Management & Equipment Management (15%)
- Organize and maintain the college’s digital photo and video assets for easy access and long-term preservation.
- Apply accurate metadata, captions and tags to assets to enhance searchability and usability.
- Maintain and oversee equipment, including cameras, lighting, audio gear, etc.
Digital Recruitment & Strategy (10%)
- As part of the Communications team, advocate for creative and strategic use of video storytelling and collaborate with other colleagues on multimedia content.
- Strategically develop and maintain the college’s YouTube channel so it aligns with recruitment strategy.
- Regularly consider analytics around digital engagement to help educate enhancements, future projects and opportunities.
Student Supervision and Mentoring (10%)
- Oversee and supervise student employees providing photo and video coverage.
Evolving Responsibilities (10%)
- Pursue innovative approaches and professional development for storytelling, video editing and photography to strengthen institutional communications.
- Collaborate across departments to align multimedia projects with strategic goals and campus engagement.
- Adapt to evolving priorities and contribute to Communications projects as institutional needs change.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must be able to explain and/or demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Specifically,
- Actively and positively contribute to the college’s core values of diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism and access.
- Produce dynamic and effective video/photography/multimedia content and tell compelling stories through visual mediums.
- Strategize content and concepts and see them through from start to finish.
- Use software platforms related to digital editing (e.g., Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom).
- Format videos/photos for YouTube and other digital channels.
- Gather and interpret media content analytics.
- Interact and collaborate with diverse individuals, teams and groups.
- Manage multiple projects on time, on brand and on budget.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for student interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or a related field, as well as three or more years of experience producing video.
- OR a combination of relevant education, training and experience.
