ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

POSITION SUMMARY:
World Relief Chicagoland is seeking an Arabic-speaking Community Ambassador. The Community Ambassador position will engage in activities to collect, analyze, and obtain feedback from immigrant communities and diverse populations to better understand community trends and needs. This team member will work with their own community as well as other ethnic communities to share information on policy updates, connect individuals to internal and external resources, expand community partnerships, and increase access to services. The position will collaborate with other Community Ambassadors and strengthen community relationships through outreach, meetings, workshops, and networking. This position requires flexibility to support projects outside of standard business hours and will work across Chicagoland’s two locations: Aurora and DuPage.
 
 
This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until 06/30/2027, and contingent upon funding extension.
 
•    Conduct regular outreach to community members, identify community needs, provide follow-up support, and make referrals to appropriate services and resources.  •    Assist newcomers in accessing and navigating internal and external community resources.  •    Gather, share, and communicate feedback from immigrant communities to help identify trends, needs, and service gaps, serving as a bridge between World Relief and the communities served.  •    Build and maintain relationships with community partners and regularly share information about new or updated resources with the Community Ambassador team.  •    Engage and build relationships with both their own ethnic community and other immigrant communities to increase awareness of services and resources.  •    Plan, adapt, and participate in educational groups, workshops, and community-building activities, both in person and virtually.  •    Collaborate on outreach efforts for workshops, events, classes, and other activities to promote participation and engagement.  •    Create and share informational materials in target languages about available services, resources, policy updates, and life in the United States.  •    Collaborate closely with fellow Community Ambassadors and other World Relief programs to support outreach, community engagement, and service delivery efforts.  •    Document plans, activities, outcomes, referrals, and follow-up actions in a timely and accurate manner.  •    Actively participate in department meetings, staff development opportunities, trainings, community activities, and organizational events.  •    Maintain timely and accurate client files, case notes, and reporting records.  •    Support community resource development and help expand networks that connect community members to needed services.  •    Other duties as assigned.

  • Member of an immigrant community.
  • Fluency in Arabic language required, Sudanese Arabic strongly preferred.   
  • MS Office skills required.
  • Valid driver’s license, regular access to a vehicle, and ability/willingness to drive 15-passenger van required.
  • Ability to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong follow-through and ability to work independently.  
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to respond with compassion, grace, and patience.
  • Direct-service experience with immigrant populations preferred.
  • Cross-cultural experience and/or personal refugee/immigrant experience.
  • Strong English communication skills. 
  • Strong mediation and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment.
