About the Role
~1 min readXP Health is running a validation study on a new way to measure OC (optical center — the point on a lens aligned with the eye, used to fit glasses correctly) remotely, comparing it against the current in-person process used for progressive lens orders. Roughly 30 participants will each go through an at-home phase and an in-office phase.
XP is hiring 3 contract opticians to work scheduled office days, running parallel stations so participants move through efficiently.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Perform "dotting" for each participant: manually mark the precise optical center point by hand on each supplied test lens/frame (no prescription in the lens), which serves as the study's ground-truth measurement
- →Work through ~10 frames per participant (~3 minutes of dotting per frame), staying on pace with the schedule so sessions run on time
- →Run your own station in parallel with the other two opticians (3 stations total) during each office day
- →Coordinate with the on-site research assistant (RA), who checks participants in, stages frames, and keeps the room on schedule
- →Complete CITI training (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative — a standard, short online human-subjects research ethics course) before any participant contact, if not already certified
- Licensed optician (ABO certified or state-equivalent), with hands-on experience marking optical center / segment height on lenses
- Comfortable following a structured research protocol exactly as written, without improvising technique
- Able to work efficiently and consistently across a full day of back-to-back participant sessions
- Available to work onsite at our San Carlos office full-time (about 9am–5pm) for the whole study
- Available from October through November
