Under direction from the Wellness Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor, the Justice Coordinator/Counsellor will provide support in the justice programs, including health promotion activities to the community, family and individual. The incumbent works in the Wellness team setting to achieve the goals of healthy lifestyle for the community. The incumbent will gather, organize, transmit and exchange information to facilitate planning, program development and delivery, and sound community justice programs; and plans and delivers assessment, support and counseling services.
This is a full-time position based in Ndilo Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Promote and deliver Justice programs and services to the YKDFN members through home, hospital, agency visit, community presentations and programs.
- →Plan and deliver assessment, support and counseling services (Substance abuse and other addictions, Family violence, grief and loss
- →Plan and deliver services :(Assisting with delivering programs, client referrals to treatment and other addictions programming, work with youth program for preventions program delivery, client referrals to community based mental health services, case management)
- →Individual/Family intervention meetings when required (Case conferencing, partnership with appropriate professional resources)
- →Establish and develop YKDFN Justice Committee (Develop terms of reference, identify community members, host regular meetings with committee)
- →Promote delivery of mental health services, living support services and justice in communities (Identification of partner services, develop schedule, identify confidential office space and expectations, identification of partner services)
- →Facilitate transfer of clients to court, community based mental health and living support services.
- →Include community-based mental health and living support services in community events and presentations.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in the drug & alcohol field.
- Experience with alcohol, drug and other socio-economic issues and their effects on individuals, families and the community.
- Experience working with First Nation organizations/governments is required.
- A thorough knowledge and work experience with various computer hardware and software.
- The ability to speak/write Dogrib or Chipewyan is a definite asset.
- Good communication skills (oral, written, presentation, facilitation).
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Must be reliable and able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with individuals at all organization levels, in a progressive manner that would lead to the successful accomplishment of YKDFN goals and objectives.
- Must be tactful and diplomatic.
