Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Construction Intern in our Rockford, IL office starting May 2027. This on-the-job experience will support the firm’s transportation, water, and wastewater departments by participating in the field observation of a variety of projects and an opportunity to work directly with firm clients. Assignments may involve roadway reconstructions, structural (bridges and walls) improvements, water and stormwater infrastructure construction, and sanitary sewer projects. The Intern will be actively involved in the oversight of construction, earning valuable experience in the civil engineering field.

• →Construction services associated with quantity computation, construction layout, survey, and construction inspection.
• →Field work, studies, and design of water and wastewater system rehabilitation.
• →Assisting engineers with the evaluation, study, and design of transportation, storm sewer, potable water, sanitary sewers, and treatment plant improvements.

• →Available to start May 2027.
• →Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman service area (own transportation).
• →Work in a team environment.
• →Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
• →Desire and ability to work outdoors 40+ hours per week.
• →Able to identify and solve problems promptly.

• Ongoing pursuit of a 4-year degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in construction engineering
