Client Investment Research Associate
Quick Summary
About Bridgewater Bridgewater Associates is a premier asset management firm, focused on delivering unique insight and partnership for the most sophisticated global institutional investors.
Bridgewater’s mission has always been to understand how the world works and translate that understanding into the best possible portfolios for our clients. The Client Investment Research Analyst role sits at the center of that translation. It is a role unlike others in asset management: you take Bridgewater’s view of the cause-and-effect linkages in economies and markets and put it to work advising the world’s most sophisticated institutional investors.
You will work on the investment problems facing Bridgewater’s institutional clients: sovereign wealth funds, large public pensions, endowments, and other major allocators. The work spans the full range of what these institutions need from a macro investment partner, from synthesizing what’s going on in the world, to considering how to best manage a portfolio from the perspective of each investors’ unique goals and constraints, both strategically and tactically. You will do this alongside Bridgewater’s Strategists, a small group of senior investors appointed by our co-CIOs to lead our work with allocators; as you develop, you will take on more of the investment content those engagements carry.
Responsibilities
~1 min readBridgewater’s culture is anchored in the pursuit of excellence—tied directly to our mission. In financial markets, where the base case is failure and reality is constantly evolving, winning requires continuous learning and improvement. Truth is our most essential tool for improvement, and transparency helps us get closer to truth because it places many eyes on our decisions, problems, and mistakes. By understanding reality clearly, we can identify the gap between where we are and where we want to be—and use that knowledge to learn and get better. Our system that supports this way of being is an idea meritocracy, where we commit to finding and rewarding the best ideas regardless of hierarchy.
Operating in these ways is hard. Finding truth and learning through it is inherently a high-friction cycle. It’s possible because we share a few core values: a commitment to honesty, high ownership, deeply meaningful work and relationships, and building Bridgewater as a big tent where vast differences are welcomed. These values create the common denominator that binds us together in good times and bad.
