About the Role

~2 min read
  • Manage a complex caseload of parents and carers involved with FDAC, completing holistic assessments and recovery plans that consider substance use, parenting, physical and mental health, domestic abuse, housing, relationships and wider social needs.
  • Deliver a range of evidence-informed one-to-one interventions, including motivational and psychosocial work, harm reduction, relapse prevention, recovery planning and support to reduce or stop substance use.
  • Build purposeful, consistent relationships with parents who may have experienced barriers to engaging with treatment, health, social care or other support services.
  • Help parents understand the impact of substance use and wider risks on their children, and support them to develop safer parenting, home routines and family relationships.
  • Support access to the right treatment at the right time, including clinical interventions, detox, rehab, recovery groups, community support and aftercare.
  • Provide practical support to attend appointments where appropriate, make and follow up referrals, explain treatment options and advocate for parents whose needs may otherwise be overlooked.
  • Work closely with FDAC colleagues, Children’s Social Care, health services, Family Hubs, housing, domestic abuse services and other partners to provide joined-up support and contribute to care planning.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant FDAC, social care and multi-agency meetings, sharing information appropriately and providing clear, evidence-based updates on engagement, progress, risk and protective factors.
  • Provide day-to-day case consultation, practical guidance and reflective support to colleagues within the Building Bridges team, particularly where family circumstances, risk or engagement are complex.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and risk-management processes, ensuring concerns are recorded, shared appropriately and escalated without delay.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and defensible case records; monitor progress and outcomes; and contribute to learning that strengthens support for families.

We are looking for a compassionate, skilled and experienced professional who:

  • Has experience of working with adults and/or families affected by substance use, safeguarding, domestic abuse, mental health or other complex needs.
  • Can manage a complex caseload, complete high-quality assessments and recovery plans, and maintain accurate, defensible case records.
  • Has an understanding of the impact of parental substance use on children and family life, and can keep children’s welfare at the centre of their work.
  • Can deliver a range of effective, recovery-focused interventions and adapt support to the parent’s strengths, needs and readiness for change.
  • Can help parents navigate health, treatment and family-support services, including making referrals, supporting attendance and advocating for their needs.
  • Can engage parents with empathy while maintaining professional boundaries, clear expectations and accountability.
  • Is confident in safeguarding practice, information-sharing and multi-agency working, including contributing to social care and court-informed processes.
  • Can provide sound case guidance and constructive challenge to colleagues, contributing to reflective, consistent and child-focused practice.
