Nice to Have

~2 min read

Cleveland Clinic is committed to caregiver development and training and has created a robust onboarding and professional development program for pharmacists of all skill levels.

This structured pathway allows pharmacists to build upon their existing medication expertise while developing the clinical, operational, and technical skills required in a tertiary academic medical center.

Through an extensive onboarding and training program, caregivers will gain hands-on experience in inpatient pharmacy operations, hospital medication-use systems, sterile compounding, clinical pharmacy services, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Following a comprehensive training period, caregivers will transition into a 7-on/7-off night shift schedule, providing critical pharmacy support across Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Pharmacists from all practice settings (retail, community, specialty, inpatient) bring highly transferable skills, including medication expertise, provider communication, medication verification, clinical decision-making, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

This onboarding program provides a structured transition to inpatient hospital pharmacy care through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience.

No prior inpatient hospital pharmacy experience is required.

Training

During the new hire period, caregivers will work primarily with clinical and operational pharmacists and participate in a structured onboarding program that includes:

  • Hospital pharmacy operations and workflow training
  • Electronic health record and medication order verification training
  • Sterile compounding and USP compliance education
  • Inpatient medication distribution systems
  • Clinical documentation practices
  • Emergency response and critical medication management
  • Medication safety and accreditation standards
  • Mentorship with experienced inpatient pharmacists
  • Progressive competency validation and performance milestones

Upon successful completion of the training program, caregivers will transition into the permanent 7on / 7off night-shift schedule.
