Network Engineer
Quick Summary
Design, build, and operate IT and OT network infrastructure at headquarters and production sites,
About the Role
~1 min readAs SkyNRG expands its Sustainable Aviation Fuel production capabilities, we are looking for a Network Engineer (IT/OT) to help build and secure the digital infrastructure that supports both our corporate and production environments.
In this newly created role, you will design, implement and operate secure IT and Operational Technology (OT) networks at our Amsterdam headquarters, our first production facility, and future sites. Reporting to the IT Operations & Infrastructure Manager, you will work closely with IT, security, plant engineering, and our automation vendors to keep operations reliable, secure, and compliant with NIS2.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →
Design, build, and operate IT and OT network infrastructure at headquarters and production sites, from Purdue Level 3 upward and at the boundary with plant control systems
- →
Manage and optimize our Fortinet (IT) and Palo Alto (OT) firewall environments, including rule sets, segmentation, and the industrial DMZ
- →
Operate Cisco Catalyst switching and Meraki wireless at our production sites, alongside the office network at headquarters
- →
Implement and maintain secure remote access for employees and vendors, including zero trust access
- →
Deploy and operate Nozomi Networks for OT asset visibility and threat detection, and integrate network and OT logs into our SIEM (Microsoft Sentinel)
- →
Support incident response together with our security team and managed SOC provider, and contribute to NIS2 compliance activities
This is an opportunity to build an IT/OT network from the ground up rather than maintain a legacy landscape. You will work with a modern technology stack, have real influence over architecture decisions, and see the direct impact of your work on our operational reliability and cybersecurity maturity.
The position is based at our headquarters in Amsterdam. Expect regular travel to the production site during construction and commissioning, becoming occasional once the site is in operation.
As a growing company in a rapidly evolving industry, we are looking for people who embrace change and are motivated to actively contribute to building and scaling our business. You are someone who feels comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment, takes ownership, and thrives when things are still developing.
5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, including hands-on responsibility for enterprise firewall environments
Strong experience with Fortinet FortiGate or Palo Alto Networks firewalls, and the willingness to master the other
Solid knowledge of routing, switching (preferably Cisco Catalyst), wireless, VPN technologies, and network security best practices
Experience with, or strong knowledge of, OT and industrial network environments, including ICS and SCADA systems
Understanding of IT/OT segmentation principles and frameworks such as IEC 62443 and the Purdue Model, including industrial DMZ design
Experience with OT monitoring solutions, preferably Nozomi Networks or comparable platforms such as Claroty or Dragos
Comfortable working in both office and plant environments, including regular travel to production sites
Professional proficiency in English
Certifications such as Fortinet FCP (NSE 4+), Palo Alto Networks PCNSE, Cisco CCNP, Nozomi Networks, IEC 62443, or GICSP
Experience within the process industry, energy, chemicals, manufacturing, or another industrial environment
Familiarity with NIS2 and experience translating regulatory requirements into practical technical controls
Experience with zero trust network access (such as Zscaler) and Microsoft Azure networking
Experience integrating network and OT logs into a SIEM, preferably Microsoft Sentinel
Automation or scripting experience with Python or Ansible, and Git-based workflows
Experience working with EPC contractors or automation vendors during plant construction and commissioning
