Corrosion Science Co-Op

The Surfaces and Corrosion team, located in Kennesaw, GA has an opportunity to participate in our summer 2027 co-op program. The team is seeking a Corrosion Engineer that can join the team for approximately 7 months, starting May 2027.The selected candidate will contribute to research supporting the development of advanced aluminum alloys for automotive, and packaging applications, helping improve durability and sustainability.

• →Support test method development on in-house environmental fracture of aluminum alloys.
• →Upkeep and maintenance of existing environmental test frames.
• →Design and execute experiments to evaluate environmental fracture performance of various aluminum alloys.
• →Interpret fracture mechanics data to establish correlation between alloy characteristics (temper, gauge, etc.), corrosion properties, and environmental performance.

• Ability to work safely in an industrial R&D setting.
• Graduate student in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge and experience in environmental fracture testing (slow strain rate testing [SSRT], direct current potential drop [DCPD], double cantilever beam fracture [DCB]).
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
• Experience in DOE and data interpretation.

• Research experience in environmental fracture of aluminum such as stress corrosion cracking, corrosion fatigue, and hydrogen embrittlement.  
• Knowledge of various corrosion methods including setup, instrumentation, and interpretation of results.
• Specific experience related to aluminum products would be a distinct advantage.
