Master Thesis - Modelling and Simulation of Compression Drivers
Quick Summary
Signal Processing and Acoustics
2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each
Axis communications have a growing number of products which includes paging systems with horn speakers. Simplified, a horn speaker is a way of increasing the efficiency of a transducer by improving the acoustic impedance matching.
The speaker driver for a horn speaker is often a compression driver, a small transducer in a confined space, with an opening into the throat of the horn. The small dimensions in the compression chamber leads to very high sound pressure levels where the air behaves differently compared to in free air. This complicates simulation of compression drivers.
The objectives below are suggestions rather than strict requirements. We will decide together which objectives to focus on and whether to adjust them to fit your interests and the direction of the thesis.
- Investigate suitable methods and tools for simulation of compression drivers.
- Build physical prototype of simulated compression driver.
- Evaluate similarities and differences between simulated results and actual measurements.
For this thesis proposal we target students with a strong interest in audio, mechanics and signal processing. Most likely you are studying a Master Program in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Physics.
