Responsibilities
~4 min readThe Atlassian Platform team owns the governance, configuration, and continuous improvement of MSCI’s Atlassian Cloud environment — Jira Software, Confluence, Jira Product Discovery, and Rovo — which serves as the operational backbone for approximately two-thirds of MSCI’s global workforce. We keep the platform reliable, well-governed, and strategically aligned with how MSCI works. Beyond keeping the lights on, we are the internal centre of expertise for what the Atlassian platform can do — including its rapidly expanding AI capabilities — and how to use those capabilities in ways that are practical, cost-justified, and genuinely useful to the teams that depend on us.
We are establishing a presence in Mumbai to extend our operational coverage into the APAC timezone and build a trusted platform relationship with MSCI’s India-based stakeholder community. This role is that presence. You will enter through deep operational immersion — learning how a regulated financial technology firm uses Atlassian at enterprise scale — and grow into a broader mandate as you demonstrate the judgment and organizational fluency to advise internal teams on how to solve their real problems using the platform, including where AI fits and where it does not.
- →Serve as the primary APAC point of contact for the Atlassian Platform Support queue: triaging and resolving platform requests covering Jira project setup, Confluence space configuration, API token provisioning and renewal, board configuration, permission management, and user access — handling these with both technical accuracy and clear stakeholder communication.
- →Manage Atlassian REST API tokens and service account credentials for teams integrating Jira and Confluence into automation pipelines, reporting tools, and AI agents — including provisioning, expiry monitoring, rotation, and advising requestors on appropriate access scoping.
- →Execute platform administration and KTLO activities: Jira and Confluence configuration maintenance, sandbox environment lifecycle management, licensing inventory support, and governance documentation — building operational depth that becomes the foundation for everything else.
- →Advise internal stakeholder teams on how to solve workflow and collaboration problems within the Atlassian platform, distinguishing between requests that need configuration work, requests that could benefit from AI-assisted automation, and requests where the right answer is a simpler process rather than a new tool.
- →Evaluate AI use cases within the Atlassian ecosystem — Rovo agents, AI-assisted automation rules, Confluence AI features — with a practical lens: does this use case justify its token cost, does it solve a real process problem, and is it sustainable at scale? MSCI’s Procurement function monitors AI spend, and your advisory work directly informs those cost decisions.
- →Build and maintain documentation in Confluence for platform standards, support procedures, and recurring processes — progressively converting tribal knowledge into institutional knowledge accessible to the teams that need it.
- →Develop working relationships with MSCI’s internal stakeholder functions — InfoSec, IT Risk, Privacy, Compliance, PMO, Product, and Finance — learning their constraints, building credibility, and becoming the person those teams trust to engage when they have a platform or AI tooling question.
- →Participate in Atlassian Platform Roadmap sprint ceremonies with the Monterrey (Mexico) team, contributing operational insight from the APAC support queue to inform platform roadmap prioritization and governance decisions.
Your Growth Path
This role is support-first by design, not by limitation. The Atlassian platform at MSCI is complex, highly governed, and deeply embedded in how the firm operates. Understanding it well enough to give good advice takes time and direct exposure — and that exposure comes through the support queue.
The progression to broader platform ownership — including contribution to integration decisions, enterprise reporting, and firm-wide AI tooling advisory — is earned through a specific kind of readiness: the ability to independently navigate MSCI’s internal stakeholder landscape. You will be ready when you can engage InfoSec on API governance, work through IT Risk on platform change approvals, align with Privacy on Confluence data handling, and advise PMO, Product, and Finance on platform configuration choices without requiring escalation. The team will invest actively in getting you there.
Requirements
~2 min read- 3–5 years of experience working with Jira Cloud and/or Confluence Cloud in an enterprise environment, with hands-on familiarity with project and space administration, workflow configuration, and permission management.
- Working knowledge of Atlassian REST APIs: you understand token-based authentication, can help a team diagnose an access failure, and know the difference between what should be an API integration and what should just be a native automation rule.
- Genuine, applied AI fluency — not familiarity in theory but changed behavior in practice. You use AI tools to do your actual work faster and better. Critically, you also know when not to use AI: when a simpler approach is more reliable, more maintainable, or more cost-effective. That judgment is as valuable as the capability.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English, with the professional confidence to engage senior internal stakeholders clearly, manage expectations accurately, and translate technical platform constraints into language that non-technical audiences can act on.
- A service mindset with operational discipline: you treat support as a craft, not a waiting room. You document what you learn, identify patterns in recurring requests, and look for the upstream fix rather than just closing the ticket.
- Comfort in an asynchronous, distributed team model with a significant timezone gap. You own your queue independently, keep the Monterrey (Mexico) team unblocked, and communicate proactively rather than waiting to be asked.
- This is an individual contributor role. Atlassian certifications are a plus but not a prerequisite. Deep scripting experience is not required at entry. What matters most is platform judgment, communication credibility, and the kind of AI literacy that makes you a trusted advisor rather than an enthusiast.
