Project Accountant

Leonardo has an exciting opportunity for a commercially focused qualified accountant to provide support to significant long-term support contracts as part of focused Integrated Project Teams (IPT) based in Yeovil.

In this role you will have financial responsibility for major International long term contract(s) within CS&T (Customer Support & Training) Finance team, including the accurate preparation of monthly forecasts, reporting and annual budgeting in accordance with latest accounting standards and Company Policy and timetables. Support to routine external audit requirements.

You will drive financial leadership and control into the programme, fully supporting the IPT with appropriate contract analysis, reporting and direction to enhance contract  performance and timely decision making.

Ownership of all forecasting and budgeting requirements associated with those contracts, partnering with the business continuously. This will include challenging:

Contract costs to complete along with associated schedules.

• Cash forecasting and support to treasury management for the programme, income and

expenditures.

• All Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet items pertinent to the contract.

• Contract performance monitoring and reporting.

• Expert financial advice and leadership in an IPT environment.

• Extensive preparation for audit and liaison with auditors as required.

Provide timely and accurate month-end financial reporting as appropriate, ensuring correct use of SAP in terms of contract structure and maintenance thereof, compliance with IFRS applications and to enable performance reporting, working with business.

Manage ad-hoc requests from the Financial Controller as required, problem solving to deliver solutions/proposals in a well-considered, accurate and timely manner.

This role may require travel in the UK or Overseas on occasion.

• A professionally qualified accountant with strong technical accounting knowledge.
• The confidence to explain, challenge and ensure the correct accounting treatment is applied.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate confidently at all levels across the business.
• The ability to work independently, use your own initiative and collaborate effectively across functional teams.
• Strong influencing skills, with the drive and resilience to champion and deliver change.
• Good IT skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
• Experience with SAP and Business Intelligence (BI) tools would be a significant advantage.
• A flexible and adaptable approach to work, with a willingness to travel occasionally when required.
