Essential Functions

Job Analysis and Training Gaps

  • Complete a job analysis for every position by observing work and interviewing employees and supervisors. For production jobs, work with the Production trainers.
  • Document the tasks, knowledge, skills, tools, and safety requirements for each job, and help HR keep job descriptions current.
  • Build and maintain a skills matrix for each department that shows who is trained on what.
  • Compare employee skills to job requirements and rank gaps by safety, quality, regulatory, and business risk.

Training Plans and Succession Planning

  • Build training plans for each position, including onboarding, cross-training, and refresher training. For production jobs, build plans with the Production trainers.
  • Once the needs analysis is complete, add the training needs into the succession plan. For each key position and successor, list the training needed to be ready, and set a timeline with target completion dates.
  • Maintain an annual training calendar for required training.

Training Development and Delivery

  • Create classroom training material from scratch, including presentations, guides and handouts.
  • Measure results through tests and feedback and improve training based on what is learned.

Supervisor Training

  • Build and deliver a program for new and current supervisors, lead, and managers.
  • Cover leading a team, communication, coaching, giving feedback, handling conflict, documenting performance, conducting reviews, shift handoffs, and safety leadership.
  • Train supervisors apply attendance, discipline, overtime, and leave policies fairly and consistently.
  • Prepare future supervisors identified in the succession plan and follow up after training to confirm skills are being used.

HR Training for Staff

  • New hire orientation: Company overview, policies, benefits, safety basics, and the first 90 days.
  • Employee handbook and policies: Attendance, time off, conduct, drug and alcohol, and other key policies.
  • Harassment and discrimination prevention: All employees, with added training for supervisors on handling complaints.
  • Equal employment opportunity and workplace violence prevention.
  • Leave programs: FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, and return to work.
  • Performance management and career development: Reviews, goals and development plans.
  • Hiring and interviewing: Legal and structured interviewing for managers.

Trainer Coordination

  • Coordinate with the trainers in Production and Safety, and with Chattanooga State Community College, to schedule training for employees.
  • Track attendance and completion for all training these trainers deliver and keep training logs for each employee.
  • Make sure all completed training is entered into each employee's Paycor training record.
  • Work with these trainers to avoid scheduling conflicts with production and to make sure all shifts are covered.

Certifications and Credentials

  • Keep track of all required employee certifications and credentials, such as forklift, respirator fit test, DOT hazmat, first aid/CPR, CDL, and other job-specific licenses.
  • Record all training, certifications, and credentials, with expiration dates, in each employee's training record in Paycor.
  • Watch upcoming expiration dates and schedule renewal training before certifications lapse.
  • Notify supervisors and the Director of HR of any employee whose certification has expired or is about to expire.
