Chief Sustainable Officer (Japan)

Role

In this strategic role for Societe Generale Japan, Chief Sustainable Officer is defining and implementing, in line with SG Group policies and the Group’s ESG strategy and in coordination with key stakeholders including GLBA/SIA APAC teams and ESG MARK teams, environmental, social and governance considerations into business decisions across all business lines and products, identifying sustainable finance and investing opportunities for SG Japan and its clients, and contributing to the development of new products and solutions. Chief Sustainable Officer is also participating actively in the reinforcement of our external communication towards clients, regulators, and government bodies in Japan, on the Group's sustainability ambition and capabilities and on our involvement in collaborative initiatives.

 Main Responsibilities
- Drive business change, develop and/or advocate for best practices and standards, support innovative ESG frameworks, products, and mechanisms that encourage environmentally sustainable, low carbon, and resource efficient investments
- Work with relevant business lines on identifying, originating, and marketing Sustainable Finance opportunities to SG Japan’s clients in close cooperation with GLBA/SIA team APAC and ESG MARK teams for Sustainable Investing opportunities.
- Contribute to raise risk awareness and spread the knowledge on ESG and Sustainable Finance, in close cooperation with GLBA/SIA among the leadership team of the bank and across all departments (notably through trainings)
- Developing strategic relationships with key finance sector, regulatory and government stakeholders in Japan, be the face of SG Japan internally and externally on Sustainability matters, including participating in relevant working groups, conferences, and forums, in close cooperation with the relevant teams (GLBA, MARK…)
- Represent SG Japan internally (business lines, support functions, at local, regional, and global level) and externally (clients, investors, regulators, agencies, third party vendors, etc.) on ESG related topics, when relevant.
- Keep abreast of trends and developments relevant to sustainability, conduct research, write reports, and share with senior management and relevant departments locally and regionally
- First points of contact in Japan on ESG topics.
- In charge of relaying communication shared through the ESG Business Community in Japan, and bringing relevant information to the Community.
- Be familiar with GLBA ESG tools and processes
- Plays active role on some ESG topics.

 Desired Profile

• 15 years of experience in Banking including a robust experience in ESG and Sustainable Finance
• Experience of applying sustainable finance principles, mechanisms and rating methodologies including but not limited to green, social, sustainability linked loans, credit facilities and bonds
• Good knowledge of both banking and securities products in Japan
• Good knowledge of ESG trends and policies in Japan, worldwide and in the banking industry
• Strong network across ESG and Sustainability including relevant industry bodies as well as the community, government and corporate sectors
• Have experience either in structuring financial products and transactions or working on climate finance
• Able to prioritize, work in a dynamic environment and operate under tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently and proactively
• Native level of Japanese proficiency and business level of English proficiency
• Strong ethics and integrity
• Ability to build and develop strategic relationships
• Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills
