JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled Mid-Level QA Automation Test Engineer to join our Mission Solutions modeling and simulation development team.

This effort supports a critical national defense mission by integrating intelligence-backed, medium- to high-fidelity threat system models into a wargame simulation environment. The successful candidate will help ensure the quality, reliability, and usability of a modern application built with React, TypeScript, Vite, Electron, Material UI, and Cesium. This role requires an experienced test engineer who can work independently, develop and maintain automated tests, collaborate closely with developers, and provide guidance to junior QA engineers.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Collaborate with developers, systems engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and develop test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated tests using TypeScript, Playwright, Cucumber, and Gherkin.
  • Build automated end-to-end, functional, integration, and regression tests for a React and TypeScript application.
  • Develop reusable automation frameworks, fixtures, utilities, test data, and reporting components.
  • Test React, Material UI, Vite, and Electron applications, including navigation, forms, dialogs, tables, validation, accessibility, error handling, window behavior, and file access.
  • Test Cesium-based geospatial functionality, including map navigation, terrain, imagery, layers, entity interaction, visualization, and coordinate-based workflows.
  • Create and maintain BDD feature files and TypeScript step definitions with traceability to system requirements.
  • Analyze test results, investigate failures, distinguish application defects from test or environmental issues, and document defects for resolution.
  • Conduct exploratory and risk-based testing to identify usability concerns, edge cases, and defects not covered by automation.
  • Execute regression testing and support release qualification activities.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and improve test execution, reporting, and reliability.
  • Participate in Agile activities and collaborative peer reviews, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives, daily standups, and reviews of test plans, test cases, automation code, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior QA engineers and contribute to QA standards, processes, and testing methodologies.

What Required Skills You'll Bring

  • U.S. Citizenship is required because this effort supports the Department of Defense. No clearance is required to start; however, you must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to Top Secret/SCI, which MartinFed may sponsor and/or maintain.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in software quality assurance, software testing, test automation, or a related engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Professional experience with TypeScript or JavaScript and automated testing frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or comparable tools.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated UI, end-to-end, functional, and regression tests.
  • Experience with Cucumber, Gherkin, or behavior-driven development.
  • Experience testing React applications and modern component-based user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with Vite and experience testing or supporting desktop applications built with Electron.
  • Experience designing and executing test cases, analyzing results, reporting defects, and maintaining traceability to requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, debugging, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an Agile development environment.
  • Ability to learn and work with complex software systems and technical environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring

  • Experience designing or extending automation frameworks using TypeScript, Playwright, and Cucumber/Gherkin.
  • Experience testing Material UI components and complex React workflows.
  • Experience testing Electron applications, including application configuration, window behavior, file access, or desktop packaging.
  • Experience with Cesium, geographic information systems, virtual globes, mapping applications, or other geospatial interfaces.
  • Experience testing map-based functionality such as panning, zooming, layer visibility, entity selection, terrain, imagery, dynamic visualization, and coordinate workflows.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or comparable tools.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative source-control workflows.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, GitLab, or other test management and defect tracking tools.
  • Experience with Python and/or C++.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation concepts or mission-support applications.
  • Windows and/or Linux experience, including basic networking and troubleshooting.
  • Experience mentoring junior test engineers or contributing to QA standards and process improvement.
