The School of Science at Marist University is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, Lecturer in the Department of Biology, beginning Summer 2027. The Biology Department’s academic mission is strengthened by a welcoming and inclusive community that values a range of perspectives and experiences. • An M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field.
• Enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates.

• Desire and ability to engage in teaching strategies to foster student success in the life sciences.

• Demonstrated record of improving student success in introductory science courses.
• Previous experience teaching and designing college-level biology courses.

The Biology Department seeks faculty committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive liberal arts institution that supports both liberal arts and professional programs. The candidate will teach 12 contact hours per week each semester, be involved in department and School meetings,  make contributions to the department and institution via service opportunities, and be available to students for office hours and advising.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with prior college-level teaching experience who are knowledgeable regarding strategies to improve student retention in the sciences. The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be teaching courses in the introductory series, including courses in Cell & Molecular Biology, Ecology & Evolution, and/or Genetics with accompanying labs. Opportunities also exist to teach elsewhere in the curriculum, including Immunology, the senior-level Capstone course and non-major courses to support the University’s Core Curriculum.

The Biology Department is currently located in the Allied Health Building, a 58,000 sq ft facility constructed in 2016 for Biology and allied health graduate and undergraduate programs.

The Science and Health Initiative at Marist includes construction of a new Science and Health building which is slated to open in 2028. This building will adjoin the Allied Health Building and triple the space available to undergraduate and graduate programs in the sciences and allied health programs.

Poughkeepsie and several nearby communities are ranked among the most diverse in the upstate New York region, with major cultural and recreational attractions as well as easy access to New York City on Amtrak or Metro-North train service.
