Purchasing Process and Controls
• Own and administer the purchasing process, including approved policies, procedures, approval limits, documentation requirements, supplier controls, and system workflows.
• Develop, document, communicate, and improve purchasing procedures, standard work, forms, templates, and controls.
• Train employees and affected departments on purchasing requirements, monitor compliance, address gaps, and maintain records that support authorized reviews.
Team Leadership and Daily Purchasing Operations
• Lead purchasing team members by setting priorities, assigning work, balancing workloads, providing coaching, and maintaining accountability for timely and accurate results.
• Review purchasing queues, open orders, overdue commitments, pricing changes, shortages, discrepancies, and escalated requests, then coordinate timely action.
• Approve supplier selections, purchase orders, changes, exceptions, and other purchasing transactions within assigned authority and company policy.
• Ensure purchase orders and supporting records accurately reflect approved pricing, quantities, items, specifications, freight, delivery, payment, and documentation requirements.
• Coordinate urgent needs, remove obstacles, resolve escalated issues, and communicate significant risks or decisions to leadership and affected teams.

• Lead supplier discussions and negotiations involving pricing, terms, delivery commitments, service requirements, and corrective actions.
• Monitor supplier performance, address recurring gaps, and coordinate recovery plans, corrective actions, escalation, or approved sourcing changes.
• Partner with the Business Unit Controller and Accounting on purchasing commitments, cost projections, invoice controls, cash-management information, payment requirements, and system needs.
• Oversee the timely resolution of pricing, quantity, receipt, invoice, freight, tax, payment-term, credit, and supplier-account discrepancies.

• Ensure accurate supplier, item, pricing, lead-time, order, delivery, rebate, freight, approval, and purchasing data in Epicor and other approved systems.
• Develop purchasing metrics and use supplier information to identify trends, risks, recurring issues, cost opportunities, and process gaps.
• Lead approved improvements involving standardized part numbers, master data, electronic workflows, supplier integration, reporting, automation, and data quality.
• You can lead employees with clear expectations, fair accountability, practical coaching, and consistent follow-through.
• You understand how purchasing decisions affect production, project schedules, cost, quality, inventory, cash flow, and internal customers.
• You can evaluate pricing, terms, lead times, supplier capability, service, quality, risk, and total cost before making or recommending a decision.
• You communicate clearly, address issues directly, and know when a decision or commitment should be escalated.
• You build productive relationships across departments and can improve a process without losing the controls the business requires.
Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience in purchasing, procurement, supplier management, materials, supply chain, accounting, or a related business function.
• Experience supervising employees, leading a functional team, or directing cross-functional purchasing processes.
• Working knowledge of purchasing practices, supplier management, commercial terms, internal controls, documentation, and ethical requirements.
• Ability to evaluate supplier proposals, pricing, terms, lead times, service, quality, risk, and total cost and make sound decisions within assigned authority.

• High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook and experience working in ERP, purchasing, inventory, accounts-payable, reporting, or related business systems.
Experience That Stands Out
• DIS-TRAN Steel experience involving purchasing, supply chain, materials, planning, inventory, receiving, operations, quality, maintenance, accounting, ERP data, or cross-functional process improvement.
• Experience with Epicor, MRP, supplier scorecards, electronic purchasing workflows, EDI, inventory planning, or master-data governance.
• Experience working with Accounting or Finance on cost forecasts, invoice controls, cash-management information, audits, credits, rebates, or supplier-account reconciliation.
• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, accounting, engineering technology, operations, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
• APICS, ASCM, ISM, CPSM, CPIM, or related purchasing or supply-chain training or certification.
