Job Summary

The Part-Time Athletic Trainer provides on-site injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and emergency care for student-athletes participating in San José State University's Club Sports Program. Working under the direction of the Club Sports Coordinator and in consultation with team physicians as needed, this position ensures safe practice and competition environments, supports athlete health and return-to-play decisions, and helps club teams and coaches follow sound athletic training practices. This role is ideal for a licensed or certified athletic trainer seeking flexible, part-time work in a collegiate recreational sports setting.

Essential Functions and Tasks

Provide on-site injury assessment, first aid, and emergency medical response at club sports practices, home competitions, and designated away events.
Develop and implement injury prevention programs, including taping, bracing, and pre-activity screenings.
Evaluate athletic injuries and determine appropriate immediate treatment, referral, or return-to-play recommendations in accordance with established protocols.
Maintain accurate and confidential injury and treatment records in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
Coordinate with team physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers on athlete care and rehabilitation plans.
Maintain, stock, and organize athletic training supplies, equipment, and first-aid kits for club team use.
Develop and communicate emergency action plans (EAPs) for practice and competition venues.
Educate student-athletes and coaches on injury prevention, hydration, conditioning, and general wellness.
Ensure compliance with applicable NATA, NCAA club sport guidelines (where relevant), and university risk management policies.
Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and certification renewals as scheduled by the Club Sports Program.
