Associate Software Engineer (.NET / Java)

Our client is a data and technology services firm serving the financial services industry. Its Colombo engineering team designs, builds, integrates, migrates and supports enterprise software in regulated, data-intensive environments. This is an entry-level role for engineers who want to build a strong foundation in either .NET (C#) or Java, with guidance from senior engineers and subject matter experts. No prior domain or platform knowledge is needed.

You will take on small, well-defined development, conversion and support tasks, learn the team's engineering practices, and grow towards owning features end to end. Your primary stack will be either .NET or Java, depending on the opening you are placed in.

• →Deliver small, well-defined work items in C#/.NET or Java under guidance
• →Write clean, maintainable code that follows engineering standards
• →Create and maintain unit tests for everything you build
• →Take part in code reviews and act on feedback
• →Use source control and branching practices correctly
• →Investigate and fix defects, with support where needed
• →Produce and update technical documentation
• →Follow secure development standards
• →Collaborate with SMEs, QA and senior engineers across the delivery lifecycle
• →Use approved AI coding assistants for routine work, and review everything they generate before committing it

• Strong programming fundamentals, object-oriented programming and problem-solving ability
• SQL basics and an understanding of relational databases
• Unit testing experience
• Git and a modern IDE
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle and data structures and algorithms
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

• .NET: C# and modern .NET fundamentals; unit testing with xUnit, NUnit or MSTest; Visual Studio or similar; SQL Server preferred
• Java: Java fundamentals; unit testing with JUnit or similar; IntelliJ or similar

• .NET: ASP.NET Core, REST/JSON basics, Azure, containers
• Java: Spring Boot, Maven or Gradle, REST/JSON, Docker, Azure or AWS
• Both: CI/CD concepts; any frontend exposure (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React; Blazor for .NET)

• Learning mindset and curiosity about new platforms and business domains
• Reads unfamiliar code carefully and asks questions early
• Takes feedback well and follows work through to completion
• Clear written and verbal English

• Backend focused, with willingness to learn frontend work when projects need it being essential
• AI-assisted engineering using approved tools, with full ownership of the output
• Varied engagements across legacy conversion, API builds and integration fixes
• Quality built in: testing, code review, source control discipline, secure coding and documentation

• Comply with company and client security policies
• Protect confidential client and member data
• Report security incidents promptly
• Complete required security and compliance training
