Thesis – Voice Interaction for Intercom Devices

Scope

1-2 Master thesis students or 2 Bachelor thesis students

Intercom devices provide a voice-first experience. What if we could enable the software to hear and speak when a call goes unanswered? Could we improve accessibility for people with visual or hearing impairments too?

To explore this, several research areas are available:

• Lip-syncing: Supporting lip-readers during audio calls using virtual avatars.

• Specialized audio transcription: Enhancing speech-to-text accuracy in noisy environments.

• On-device speech synthesis: Generating speech in resource-constrained environments.

• Prosody modeling: Creating natural rhythm and intonation in generated speech.

• Language identification: Automatically detecting spoken languages in real time.

If any of these topics interest you, we can define a tailored thesis or project goal together. For instance:

• Developing a lightweight ML model that predicts natural prosody from text at minimal runtime cost.

• Building a real-time speech analysis pipeline to drive expressive live avatars.

• Implementing robust call transcription or automatic language detection to allow instant responses in the speaker's language.

Who are you?

Master or Bachelor student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Applications are accepted in both Swedish and English, and you apply via the proposal advert.
• The announced thesis is open only to students affiliated with a Swedish University/College either directly or via an exchange program.
• When the thesis proposal states that it includes two students working together, we would like you to apply in pairs. In these cases, send one application each but make sure to clearly state in your application who your co-applicant is. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact us.
